Lasallian School Paper Advisers (SPA) bagged multiple awards in the recently concluded Division Training Workshop for SPAs on Journalism that aimed to equip them with necessary coaching skills for the upcoming Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC).
The three-day activity included a one-hour lecture and one-hour workshop facilitated by high-caliber, National Press Conference (NSPC)-winning SPAs in the Division at Bagong Nayon IV Elementary School, October 11,12, and 19.
SPAs put in the effort and elbow grease to showcase Lasalliansโ commitment to excellence and โinnoventionโ resulting to recognition for awards in different categories.
In Elementary English, Ms. Jubil Biรฑas, SPA of The Harbor, a former Campus Journalists (CJ) and an NSPC kid, stood in the championship podium in Column Writing, Copyreading, Editorial Cartooning, Feature Writing, Science and Technology Writing. She also bagged 2nd place in Editorial Writing, News Writing, and Sports Writing. She was awarded also with Best in Penmanship.
In addition, Mr. John Patrick Cultura, SPA of The Voyagers and homegrown Antipolo CJ for Secondary English won 2nd Place in Sports Writing and Science and Technology Writing, 3rd Place in Feature Writing, and 4th Place in News Writing and Photojournalism.
Mr. Job Briola, SPA of Ang Layag and a lecturer on column writing bagged the championship in this category and 2nd place in photojournalism.
Further, the SPAs competed in the recently added category Mobile Journalism and clinched the gold as they showcase their unique style in news reporting online.
โThe real work comes after this,โ said Mr. Cultura, SPA and Student Publications Moderator.
โThere is a need for us to sustain this and create a ticket for RSPC [Regional] and hopefully, NSPC,โ said Mr. Brylle Lumba, Student Activities Coordinator and Public Relations Officer of the Division SPA association.
The SPAs were grateful for the overwhelming support given by the community as they train the campus journalists. They have been training the Lasallian CJs since early October and will continue to uphold excellence as they now head to the competition on November 8 and Nov. 23.
