In the spirit of nationalism and solidarity, the Lasallian Student Media Circle (LSMC) spearheaded the Lasallian Voter Education forum as a preparation for this year's midterm elections, March 19, via Zoom.

Grades 10-12 students gathered online to discuss different social issues with the aim to equip young Lasallians in choosing the rightful leaders in the upcoming elections. The topics circumvented the core values of Faith, Service, and Communion as well as the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Br. Vince Paildan from De La Salle Lipa shared his insights on the spirit of faith, in line with the promotion of wellbeing through accessible healthcare. The discussion underscored the importance of choosing a leader who "cares for those who take care of the people".

This was followed by a discussion of community involvement and engagement by Mr. Benjamin Sazon Jr. from De La Salle Zobel under the core value of zeal for service. He emphasized the crucial role of leaders in nation-building, so it is with utmost importance to check their platforms.

The forum discussion ended with an inspiring session shared by Mr. Clarenz Nalaunan from the Special Needs Education faculty of LSCA. He highlighted the importance of selecting a leader who is capable of providing opportunities to people from all walks of life.

After the forum, a mock election preference survey for senators and partylist was conducted from 10 am to 7 pm. The senatorial preference survey results favored former senator Kiko Pangilinan topping the list with 73.7% of the votes. Following him in the list were Bam Aquino (64.1%) and Heidi Mendoza (47.7%). Almost 18% abstained in voting for this position.

Majority of the respondents are not yet aware of who to vote in the partylist resulting in almost 30% abstaining. Nonetheless, Akbayan still emerged as the top preference with 31.44% of the votes.

No rookies nor experts in the field of campus journalism.

The Grade School student writers of The Harbor proved that being newcomers does not mean being outmatched after clinching two championship medals in the recently concluded Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC).

More than 30 public and private elementary schools vested for a podium finish in the DSPC held on Nov. 8 at San Isidro National High School.

Newbie photojournalist Sophia Diana of Grade 5A dominated the photojournalism category for English after emerging as 1st place. Her lens for news was undeniably sharp as she turned her still-images to life in her captioning skills.

Avid science fan and voracious reader Miguel Iรฑigo Quilala of 5A proved that reading comes a long way. Miguel emerged as champion in Science Writing Category for English, exhibiting his ability to make mundane science facts interesting.

Both Diana and Quilala will compete again in the Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) in Lipa, Batangas in February 2025.

In addition, scribe and Grade school Governor Tiffany Liwanag entered the podium in 5th place for Column Writing. Her convincing way of providing arguments was proof of her commitment to excellence in this category.

The team was grateful for the experience amid being new in the field. They aim to exhibit their commitment to their craft for the next years to come and make their publication, The Harbor, echo its foghorn for more bays ahead.
