Where do we really stand on AI and tech infrastructure — compared with our ASEAN neighbors?
Recent indexes show the Philippines is making progress, but it’s still behind several ASEAN peers on government AI readiness and digital competitiveness. For example, the Government AI Readiness Index (Oxford Insights) places the Philippines around the mid-50s globally (score ~58.5), while regional leaders like Singapore and Malaysia rank much higher.
That means while we have clear strengths — a strong talent base, English proficiency, and fast-growing digital services — we still face gaps in infrastructure, investment in AI platforms, and coordinated public policy to scale AI safely and fairly. These gaps affect everything from business innovation to how government services are delivered.
This isn’t just “a stats problem.” It’s about jobs, small businesses, education, and who benefits from the next wave of technology. If we want to move from follower to leader in ASEAN, we need faster investment in data & infrastructure, clearer public-sector AI policy, and stronger incentives for local AI startups and R&D.
What I want to hear from you:
1. For business owners and creators: how is tech (AI / cloud / connectivity) helping or blocking your work right now?
2. For devs and policymakers: what one practical change would make the biggest difference this year?
3. For everyone: what should be the Philippines’ #1 priority to catch up with ASEAN leaders?

The AI economy will not wait for the Philippines to catch up. Automation, machine learning, and data-driven decision-making are already reshaping industries worldwide. To prepare, the country must embed digital transformation into every regional development initiative.
