SIBOLO ISLAND, CALUYA ANTIQUE
-Sibolo Island, also known as Sibulo or Simulo Island, is a picturesque destination within the municipality of Caluya, Antique, Philippines. Covering an area of approximately 1.78 square kilometers, it is one of the smaller islands in the Caluya group. As of the 2020 census, the island's barangay, also named Sibolo, has a population of 1,493 residents.
The island is characterized by its pristine beaches, clear waters, and lush vegetation, making it an appealing spot for travelers seeking a serene environment. Despite its modest size, Sibolo offers a tranquil retreat away from more crowded tourist destinations.
Notably, Sibolo Island administers Liwagao Island, a nearby 1.14-square-kilometer landmass. Liwagao has been the subject of a territorial dispute between the provinces of Antique and Oriental Mindoro. In August 2021, a Regional Trial Court in Roxas, Oriental Mindoro, ruled that Liwagao falls under the jurisdiction of Bulalacao, Oriental Mindoro.
For those interested in visiting, access to Sibolo Island typically involves sea travel from the main islands of Panay or Mindoro. Given its relatively remote location, it's advisable to plan accommodations and transportation in advance.
Sibolo Island remains a lesser-known gem in the Philippines, offering natural beauty and a peaceful atmosphere for those looking to explore off-the-beaten-path destinations.
