As a Filipino, I supported the Duterte administration's "war on drugs," believing it crucial for national security and community safety, with positive changes evident in Sulu. However, the allegations of human rights abuses during this campaign and the subsequent ICC investigation remain deeply troubling. While I witnessed improvements in public safety, a thorough and transparent investigation is necessary for accountability and justice, despite my reservations about the ICC's involvement. The arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte is a grave development with far-reaching consequences for the Philippines and the international community. While the pursuit of justice and accountability is paramount, the circumstances surrounding this arrest raise serious concerns about due process, political motivations, and the potential for further instability. The lack of transparency surrounding the proceedings fuels anxieties about fairness and impartiality.
