𝐆𝐎𝐎𝐃 𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒: The Maritime Safety Services Unit Bicol Field Maintenance Installation Team (FMIT) led by LTJG JONATHAN E CAÑONES PCG, together with Coast Guard Sub-Station Guijalo personnel , conducted repair and replacement of aids to navigation (ATON) equipment at LS Colongcogong today, 23 August 2025 at Brgy. Colongcogong, Caramoan, Camarines Sur.

The successful restoration of LS Colongcogong significantly enhances navigational safety in the waters surrounding Caramoan, Camarines Sur ensuring safer passage of vessels and local fisherfolks operating in Camarines Sur.

𝐌𝐒𝐒𝐔-𝐁𝐂𝐋 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐃𝐔𝐂𝐓𝐒 𝐅𝐄𝐄𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐌 𝐀𝐓 𝐁𝐑𝐆𝐘. 𝟏 𝐏𝐎𝐁𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐈𝐎𝐍, 𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐀𝐂𝐀𝐘, 𝐀𝐋𝐁𝐀𝐘

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊: The Maritime Safety Services Unit Bicol (MSSU-BCL), spearheaded by its Commander, LTJG JONATHAN E CAÑONES PCG, conducted a Feeding Program in celebration of the 51st Founding Anniversary of the Maritime Safety Services Command (MSSC) at Brgy. 1 Poblacion, Bacacay, Albay.

The activity was made possible through the support of the Barangay Officials of Brgy. 1 Poblacion, Bacacay, led by Punong Barangay Hon. Antonio Beltran, together with his council.

The feeding program aimed to provide nutritious meals to children and vulnerable members of the community, reflecting the unit’s continued commitment to service beyond maritime safety.

This initiative stands as a testament to MSSU-BCL’s dedication to civic action and community partnership.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊: The Maritime Safety Services Unit Bicol, led by its Commander, LTJG JONATHAN E CAÑONES PCG together with CGMT OAS personnel conducted a Recreational Safety Awareness Information Drive today, 21 August 2025 at Charlina’s Beach House, Purok 1, Brgy. Badian, Oas, Albay.

The activity aims to promote awareness on recreational water safety and highlight preventive measures to ensure the protection of beachgoers and coastal communities.

The event was attended by thirty-eight (38) beach resort owners and representatives from various resorts in Oas, Albay. As part of the initiative, informational materials and safety tips were also distributed to reinforce the importance of practicing safety in recreational areas.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊: The Maritime Safety Services Unit Bicol (MSSU-BCL) conducted a Simultaneous Lighthouse Clean-up Drive at Lighthouse Bacacay today, 18 August 2025 at Brgy. 1, Poblacion, Bacacay, Albay, as part of the Maritime Safety Services Command (MSSC) Pre-Anniversary Activities.

The activity also included a Coastal Clean-up Drive along the nearby shoreline, actively participated in by Coast Guard Sub-Station Bacacay personnel.

This effort highlights the Coast Guard’s commitment to keeping lighthouses and coastal areas clean, well-maintained, and operational, ensuring safer seas while also supporting eco-tourism in the Bicol Region.

𝐈𝐂𝐘𝐌𝐈: The Maritime Safety Services Unit Bicol, through Maritime Rescue Sub-Center Bicol personnel led by ENS MARCO PAULO M BELEN PCG, conducted a 5-Day Maritime Search and Rescue (MARSAR) Planning from 11-15 August 2025 aboard Regional Training Center (RTC) Masbate.

A total of forty (40) RTC Masbate officers and personnel and two hundred ninety (290) trainees of Coast Guard Non-Officer's Course Class 109-2025 participated in the said course.

The course aimed to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills in maritime search and rescue planning, ensuring readiness and efficiency in responding to maritime emergencies.

LS SAN BERNARDINO (MSSU BCL)

Coordinates: LAT 12⁰ 45’ 15 “N, LONG 124⁰ 16’ 57”E
Light characteristic:FLASHING WHITE EVERY 10 SECONDS (FL W 10s)

The San Bernardino Lighthouse, or El Faro De Islote De San Bernardino, is a historical lighthouse on San Bernardino Island in the Bulusan, Sorsogon,with tower height of 49 ft.

This LS was built sometime in 1820 during the Spanish era and was made of adobe with 2-ft in thickness. In 1956, roofing of the dwelling house was repaired through the effort of public works of Catbalogan, Western Samar. In 1975, the gallary and roofing of power house was reconstructed through the efforts of public works of Catarman, Northern Samar. In 1998, the rooftop of the tower was demolished by the team from John Holland Construction Philippines Inc.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊: The Maritime Safety Services Unit Bicol, through Maritime Rescue Sub-Center Bicol personnel led by ENS MARCO PAULO M BELEN PCG, conducted a Troops Information and Education (TI&E) session on the Maritime Search and Rescue (SAR) Planner aboard HCGDBCL Function Hall, Rawis, Legazpi City, Albay.

A total of twenty-three (23) personnel from the Coast Guard District Bicol Operations, Command Center and Coast Guard Station Albay participated in the activity.

The TI&E aimed to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills in maritime search and rescue planning, ensuring readiness and efficiency in responding to maritime emergencies.
