Passion to Heal, Hope to Inspire

Each of them has a story worth telling. One student pulls an all-nighter, tirelessly studying for an upcoming quiz. Driven by perseverance and countless cups of coffee. While the other, spend hours memorizing every detail for their return demonstration, perfecting each step. Knowing that one day, those skills could mean the difference of life and death.

They gave their time and effort to voluntarily take part in the medical mission, bringing with them their passion and hope to make a difference in the lives of those who need care the most. Their journeys may be different, and their struggles are uniqueโ€”but their hearts beat with the same rhythm of hope.

They dream not only to survive, but to rise above the challenges, to serve with compassion, and to one day wear their white coats with pride as healers of both body and soul.

Students from the College of Allied Medical Health Sciences, together with the six other colleges, took part in โ€œASCEND: The General Assembly 2025,โ€ hosted by the UNO-R Supreme Student Government (UNORSSGO) held at the University Gymnasium, September 22.

The event was welcomed with an opening remark led by UNORSSGO President, Hon. Zoe Clarisse Limson, and an intermission number followed by the chants and yells of the different colleges, topped off with the different games aimed to celebrate unity, foster friendships, and build meaningful connections.

โ€œTodayโ€™s General Assembly showed how vibrant and united our UNORian community truly is; it was inspiring to see students connect, collaborate, and live out our Augustinian values of Caritas et Scientia through fun, teamwork, and camaraderie,โ€ UNORSSGO Vice President, Hon. Andre Gaviola said.

Hon. Vice President Gaviola also expressed hope that we can build on this energy to create even more inclusive and meaningful activities under the Level Up Agenda, and Together, we can continue to ASCEND โ€” rising higher as one student body.

Furthermore, the college governors for each respective college were formally initiated, marking their service to their colleges.

JUST IN | While trillions are lost to corruption, millions of Filipinos drown in floods, hunger, and neglect. The Trillion Peso March is more than a protestโ€”it is a cry for justice, accountability, and dignity for every Filipino.

On September 21, 2025, at 12:00nn, we march from the Provincial Capitol Lagoon to the Bacolod Public Plaza, wearing WHITE as a symbol of truth and hope amidst the darkness of greed.

Let our footsteps echo the demand: No more stolen funds. No more broken promises. No more corruption.

As I climbed at the pinnacle of my college journey, I refused to look back. Holding onto my future tightly, too wary to lose track. Watching others pass with flying colors also does add up. It was as if you are awaken to the story of no longer chasing the set up. The latin honors, once I believed a benchmark of success, now took a delusional turn in mitigating control which I mastered for myself.

Based on my reckoning, the changes took years bending over backwards, common early symptoms include denial, disappointment, and acceptance, followed a few months later by contentment. In fact, it was never about not giving your best nor not going the extra mile, but protecting what mattersโ€”being fit as a fiddle, a sense of peace, and intention youโ€™re willing to suffer. Until now, I am still haunted by the shadow of being a grade conscious; something I cannot get off my sleeves. Though the landscape has shifted, still my craft remains unbound.

At a sweeping glance, I now stood at the building that will make my dreams come true. New memories, New people, and New names. I exhaled a breath as both the fear and excitement in my chest pour over the vision of my new life here. Walking through the corridor full of shades of pink with balloons and booths that await, I entered my first step fueled by that enthusiastic spirit. I introduced myself and met new people, with different backgrounds and different stories, blooming new friendships that I know will last.

Itโ€™s been a month and pursuing the medical field was hard and yes itโ€™s tiring to face endless quizzes and activities and conversing what to do with our three hours vacancy. Fun because of the radiating passion and fervor as I face the UNORian path and peaceful for the silence that follows after an evening class. There are days where time passes quickly and there are days where my sagged body and lonely room made me think of giving up. However, this will never stop me from doing what I love for the path that will soon guide me to a life of quiet service to cradle the weary, so long as I honor the journey I started and the guidance I received, so long as I bleed Blue, Gold, and Pink.

My eyes strain and grow heavy.
My body, shaking but also weary.
The stress and the chaos seems too much.
Yet Rest is all I can think of.

My notes feel less like paper, and more like quicksand;
Vast, devouring, endless.
The yellow highlights sting yet they make it easy.
Hours pass by, now my head feels steady.

Midnight strikes, Iโ€™ve done all I can do.
Silence broken by a sigh of relief.
I whisper a prayer, as I turn out the light,
To hold onto the knowledge I gathered tonight.

Powerful screams echo through the halls as the Nursing department convenes on their Acquaintance Party with the theme, โ€œSilakbayan 2025: A Fiesta of Houses, A Festival of Friendship,โ€ held at the University Gymnasium, September 8.

โ€œThis event really amplified that true nursing excellence isnโ€™t only about knowledge, itโ€™s about lifting each other up and finding light in the journey as well,โ€ Mekesha Kaye Perez, a nursing freshman, stated.

Moreover, the Silakbayan 2025 became a meaningful reminder that beyond skills and victories, the heart of nursing lies in teamwork, joy, and lifting each other up along the way.

Promoting sustainability, the Medical Technology Department along with the Medical Laboratory Science Society (MEDLABSS) held its Medical Mission with the theme โ€œKasanag kag Kahimsug: Papangusisa kag Pag-amlig sang kabuhi sa Purok Dalayapan,โ€ at Dalayapan Agrarian Reform Cooperative (DARCO) Center, Brgy Caduha-an, Cadiz City, August 30.

The activity had three main activities starting from a health education discussion, followed by getting of vitals signs, and Random Blood Sugar (RBS) Testing, all aimed at aiding and improving the community health at Barangay Dalayapan.

โ€œThe Medical Mission in Dalayapan, Cadiz City served as both a learning experience and an opportunity for the Medical Technology Department to support the Universityโ€™s goal of building sustainable communities, while locals remain proactive about health, challenges such as limited access to medical services, low health literacy, unsure potability of drinking water sources, and lifestyle diseases persist,โ€ remarked by Sir Khyle P. Nueva Espaรฑa, RMT who was one of the faculty members present during the event.

Mr. Espaรฑa added that the mission highlighted the role of allied health sciences in bridging these gaps and opened doors for continued efforts to strengthen the communityโ€™s well-being.

Furthermore, food provisions were given to the resident after finishing the medical mission services.
