I stare in silence at the ceiling high,
Forcing these tired eyes to slowly comply.
A heart that's broken cries in despair,
Longing for comfort thatโ€™s no longer there.

Yesterday I walked the road we knew,
The path we took when the day was through.
Earlier I went where we used to stay,
Our secret place, where weโ€™d waste the day.

I read once more the letter you wrote,
Each tender word still clings to my throat.
I held the gifts you gave in my hand,
Plush treasures that once made life feel grand.

Still etched within my memoryโ€™s flame,
The laughter we shared, the joy and the pain.
Your eyes that sparkled with hidden grief,
A sorrow I failed to grant relief.

I was part of the dreams you planned,
And you were part of the life Iโ€™d manned.
But maybe we moved with steps too fast,
Unready for love too fierce to last.

On nights when the cold wind starts to bite,
I recall how once you were mine outright.
A love cut short, unfinished, undone,
Yet hatred will never shadow whatโ€™s gone.

You haunt me still with the life we drew,
The plans, the hopes, the visions too.
But now I know, the ghost is not you,
Itโ€™s the memories carved, a lifetime true.

๐—œ๐—ก ๐—ฃ๐—›๐—ข๐—ง๐—ข๐—ฆ | One Blooming Family, One MedTech Destiny: NU Bacolod Opens First Medical Technology Week 2025

Today, September 23, 2025, the NU Bacolod Medical Technology Department made history with the opening of its first-ever Medical Technology Week 2025, uniting its pioneer batch of students in a celebration marked by unity, talent, and leadership.

Carrying the theme โ€œGhetto Celebration: Cottagecore,โ€ the opening ceremony showcased the creativity and spirit of the students through songs and yells, the Logo-Making Contest, and a lively intermission performance that highlighted both artistry and camaraderie.

The most significant moment of the morning program was the Oath-Taking of the first MedTech Guild Officers, who pledged to lead with integrity and dedication as the torchbearers of the guild. Their induction signaled not only the birth of a new organization but also the planting of traditions that will guide future generations of MedTech students.

Afternoon festivities on the first day of Medical Technology Week 2025 brought even more excitement. The day was filled with energy, laughter, and camaraderie as MedTech students came together to bond beyond the classroom. The program featured energizers, clustering activities, team games, and a lively talent show, all designed to build connections and showcase the creativity of the pioneer batch.

Adding meaning to the celebration, the presence of the programโ€™s faculty membersโ€”Ms. Fatima Medel, Ms. Tracy Conclara, and Ms. Lovelyn Illorinโ€”served as a reminder of the strong foundation guiding the students in their journey.

The highlight of the afternoon was the talent showcase, where MedTech students proved that their skills go beyond the laboratory, captivating the crowd with performances brimming with artistry and confidence. Winners of the games and activities were later recognized in the awarding ceremony.

In her closing message, Ms. Tracy Conclara emphasized that โ€ Her words reflected the deeper meaning of the gatheringโ€”not just as a celebration, but as the planting of seeds for traditions and values that will outlast the moment.

The assembly concluded with the singing of the NU Hymn, sealing the day with pride and solidarity. The afternoon gathering not only strengthened friendships but also reaffirmed the guildโ€™s vision: to rise above, take the lead, and let the MedTech spirit shine brighter than ever.

๐—ข๐—ฃ๐—œ๐—ก๐—œ๐—ข๐—ก | The Hunger Games: Catching Blame

Only in the Philippines could a Senate hearing on ghost flood-control projects feel like a live-action spin-off of The Hunger Games. Instead of fireballs and mutts, we had accusations, ledgers, and name-droppingโ€”but the survival instincts on display were just as dramatic.

Contractor couple Sarah and Curlee Discaya came armed not with arrows but with documents, testifying that some officials allegedly demanded 10% to 25% โ€œcutsโ€ from projects. Their testimony landed like Katnissโ€™ warning: If we burn, you burn with us. It was the kind of moment that makes everyone in the arena suddenly check if their name is written on the slip of paper.

The reaction? Pure Capitol theater act. One senator, eager to step out of the spotlight, claimed any mention of his name was without his knowledge or consent. Another insisted he had done nothing wrong, painting himself as someone caught in the crossfire of allegations. Fingers were pointed, papers shuffled, and the people watching could hardly tell whether we were witnessing a Senate hearing or a deadly game where the stakes are real lives.

Meanwhile, outside the marble halls, ordinary life looks less like an arena and more like District 12 during rainy season. Billions allegedly spent on flood control havenโ€™t stopped Filipinos from wading through submerged streets every typhoon. While some officials cool off in infinity pools, the rest of the country gets a front-row seat to the water gamesโ€”without the sponsors, parachutes, or fanfare.

The Discayas, unfazed by the pushback, even offered to serve as state witnesses. In other words: If we go down, the whole arena goes down with us. Suddenly, every finger pointed at them became an arrow pointing right back.

Of course, the cycle rolled onโ€”denials, counteraccusations, a few calls for more hearings. Like every Hunger Games installment, the spectacle is entertaining, but the script feels familiar: same plot, different arena.

And the audienceโ€”usโ€”is left wondering whether anything will change, or if the Capitol will simply rebrand the season and call it new.

But hereโ€™s the thing: unlike in Panem, we donโ€™t just sit and watch the Gamesโ€”weโ€™re also the Gamemakers. We can choose who enters the arena next. So the call is simple: pay attention, remember the players, and when itโ€™s time to cast your vote, donโ€™t just cheer from the stands.

Because in this arena, itโ€™s not just their careers on the line. Itโ€™s our lives.

For now, all we can say is: May the odds be ever in our favor.

๐—œ๐—ก ๐—ฃ๐—›๐—ข๐—ง๐—ข๐—ฆ | Dance, Culture, and Pride: A Showcase of Talent and Unity

NU Bacolod students recently celebrated the beauty of tourism in Bacolod City during a special event on September 20, 2025, at Ayala Malls Capitol Central. The showcase was a vibrant display of talent and unity, led by the BS Tourism Management students.

The event kicked off with a public viewing of the winning piece from the university's tourism week, a performance that truly welcomed visitors to the heart of Negros. The students' smiles were as sweet as the sugarcane grown throughout the province, setting a joyful tone for the day. The Bulldogs on Beat dancers took the stage next, radiating high energy and owning the dance floor with their dynamic moves.

The university's spirit was further highlighted by the cheer squad from BSTM Section 252. They left the audience in awe with a powerful display of pride, shouting in the university's signature gold and blue. The students of BSTM Section 251 then brought a performance of grace and groove to the stage, swirling to the rhythms of traditional dances like Cariรฑosa, followed by MIA and Piliin mo ang Pilipinas.

The charm of the students, dressed as goddesses, captured the hearts of the viewers as they elegantly carried festival costumes from various cities in Negros. The second-year students also transported the audience to their dream destinations by demonstrating flight safety guidelines in an entertaining and swift performance.

The event concluded with a beautiful unity dance to the anthem "Abanse Negrense," where everyone swayed to the beat, lighting up the room with their smiles. It was a perfect ending to a day that showcased the talent and collective pride of the NU Bacolod students.

๐—ก๐—˜๐—ช๐—ฆ ๐—™๐—Ÿ๐—”๐—ฆ๐—› | NU Bacolod Joins PIAโ€™s Campus Journalism Workshop

The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Western Visayas successfully concluded its three-day Journ Talk Series (PJTS) 2025 โ€“ High School Edition, conducted via Zoom on September 17โ€“19, 2025. The webinar gathered over 400 campus journalists from across Western Visayas and Negros Occidental. Among the participants was Historia de National, the official student publication of NU Bacolod, proudly marking its first-ever participation in the regional campus journalism workshop. The event highlighted the role of young writers as frontline communicators for disaster resilience while honing their skills in diverse fields of campus journalism.

Day 1 opened with a keynote address from Director General Katherine Chloe S. De Castro, who emphasized that journalism must be rooted in responsibility, truth, and the pursuit of clarity and hope. โ€œJournalism isnโ€™t just about reporting, itโ€™s about making a difference,โ€ she stressed. The first workshops focused on the foundations of writing, with Ms. Charie Gnete-Ilon guiding participants in feature writing through human-centered storytelling, while Ms. Nanette L. Guadalquiver highlighted the principles of clarity, objectivity, and simplicity in news writing. The day wrapped up with a writeshop that allowed student writers to apply their learning in practice.

On the second day, the focus shifted to sharpening technical skills essential for campus publications. Elyrose Naorbe, Operations Manager of No Boundaries Advertising and Events and Sports Editor of the Iloilo Metropolitan Times, gave a detailed discussion on sports writing. The Daily Guardian Editor-in-Chief Francis Allan Angelo highlighted the significance of editorial and column writing as the backbone of school papers, while Professor Allen V. Del Carmen, known as the father of campus journalism training in Western Visayas, shared practical techniques on copyreading and headlining. Ransom Agui, digital marketing consultant, capped the day with a lecture on editorial cartooning.

The final day expanded perspectives on journalismโ€™s role in science, health, the environment and multimedia. Dev Albao of the Reef-World Foundation encouraged students to pursue investigative journalism in science and environmental writing. Agnes Lira-Jundos, Communications Chair of USLS Bacolod and radio production director, showed the power of broadcasting in disaster communication, amplifying how student voices can save lives. Freelance photojournalist Francis Ryan Pabiania shared insights on visual storytelling through photojournalism, while design consultant Gad Castro equipped participants with practical tools on e-publication, layout, and collaborative design for improved campus papers.

As the Journ Talk Series drew to a close, the PIA reminded every participant that their passion and commitment to truth matter. The three-day exchange of journalistic growth concluded with a challenge: for campus journalists to keep writing, keep asking, and keep telling stories that empower minds and strengthen communities.
