PRO NIR DAILY UPDATE ON MT. KANLAON RESPONSE OPERATIONS

The Police Regional Office Negros Island Region (PRO NIR) continues its round-the-clock monitoring and assistance operations following the recent ash emission and heightened unrest of Mount Kanlaon.
In response to the recent ash emission of Mount Kanlaon, the Police Regional Office Negros Island Region (PRO NIR) has deployed police personnel in La Castellana, Negros Occidental and Canlaon City, Negros Oriental to assist displaced families, maintain peace and order, border control, and ensure the protection of evacuees, particularly against gender-based violence during this critical time.

According to the Kanlaon Volcano Bulletin issued by DOST-PHIVOLCS on October 16, 2025, at 5:00 AM, the volcano remains under Alert Level 2 (Increased Unrest), with 7 recorded volcanic earthquakes, 1,879 tonnes/day sulfur dioxide flux (as of October 15), and a 150-meter-high moderate emission drifting west and southwest. The volcano edifice remains inflated, indicating ongoing unrest.
There have been no reported incidents of ashfall or sulfuric odor in the barangays surrounding Mount Kanlaon.
Residents and tourists are strongly advised not to enter the 4-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) due to possible sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions and precursory magmatic activity. Flying any aircraft near the volcano is also strictly prohibited.
