How silly of me
I almost stopped them from getting dirty and using their imagination.
I almost called them inside.
Almost asked them to change out of their play clothes.
Almost said, āBe careful,ā before they even started.
But then I looked closer.
At their bare feet in the dirt.
At the way they were huddled around that basket like it held buried treasure.
At their joy.. the kind that doesnāt come in plastic or require a screen.
They were creating a world together.
With sticks, leaves, laughter, and a whole lot of teamwork.
And I nearly ruined it with a grown-up thought.
So I stepped back.
Because one day theyāll be too big to crawl under trees,
but I hope theyāll always remember what it felt like to be small,
free, and wildly imaginative.
Let them play.
Let them get dirty.
Let them live childhood the way it was meant to be lived.
