🚝 BAGUIO EYES FIRST-EVER ELECTRIC MONORAIL IN P11.5B GREEN TRANSPORT PROJECT

BAGUIO CITY — Back in 2021, listed firm Metro Global Holdings Corp. proposed a ₱11.5-billion mass transport project aimed at transforming Baguio City into the first urban center in the country to operate a fully electric-powered monorail system.

The plan included a 4-kilometer elevated monorail circling Baguio’s central business district, along with battery-powered feeder buses to support the system. Designed as a model for sustainable urban mobility, the proposal sought to address Baguio’s worsening traffic congestion while minimizing its environmental footprint.

According to Metro Global, the project was envisioned as a “sustainable long-term strategy” to improve mass transport management, reduce pollution, and enhance the overall commuting experience for residents and tourists alike.

Although first announced in 2021, the proposal continues to be relevant today as the city and the nation explore greener, more efficient transport solutions.
