Today marks the final day of the PHOENIX Annual Qualifying Exams (AQE). By next nightfall, the gates will close and the forge will fall silent. Yet the end is but an ember of a new beginning. The fire will return brighter than before.

The PHOENIX Annual Qualifying Exams (AQE) have taken flight. Aspiring applicants are now spreading their wings, as they dare to dance with fire, ready to ignite the flame that sets them apart.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘴 𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘯 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭 𝘚𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘺, 𝘚𝘦𝘱𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 14.

Kaibigan, ano 'yang pas-an mo?
Baon mo'y isang daang karayom,
ngunit ni isa sa iyong sugat ay 'di matahi.
Bakit pinipilit mong uhawin ang iyong sarili
sa disyerto ng pighati.

Kaibigan, anong naiisip mo?
Pagkat sa taas ng punong inaakyat mo,
sala naman sa tamis ng mangga ang nais mo.
Imbis na panungkit ang dala sa bisig,
ang hanap ay mahaba na lubid.

Kaibigan, anong naririnig mo?
Sa bawat kamusta ko sa iyo,
parang posteng naglalakad ang kausap ko.
Hindi ko alam kung napapansin mo,
ang hagulhol sa katahimikan ng boses mo.

Ngunit kaibigan, bakit ka nagmamadali?
Siguraduhin mo munang may sinulid bago ka magtahi,

On this sacred day, we honor the birth of Prophet Muhammad, whose life continues to be a beacon of peace, mercy, and compassion. Maulid un-Nabi is not only a remembrance of history but also a call to embody his teachings in our daily lives through spreading kindness, upholding justice, and strengthening the bonds of our community.

May this blessed occasion inspire us all to live with faith, humility, and love for one another.

Now, we are seeking those with mettle bold enough to be forged:
- Writers to strike with words
- Photojournalists to catch the sparks before it fades
- Artists to draw matter with fiery passion
- Layout artists to hammer art into ingots
- Radio broadcasters to carry the blazing echoes in your voice

This is the crucible.
This is the transformation.
This is PHOENIX.

“𝘞𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘳, 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘧𝘭𝘢𝘷𝘰𝘳.” — would be something I’d probably say, if I were permitted to. And if you’re reading this as is, then I’m glad I was allowed to tell you.

For the past few years, being part of campus journalism has come to mean being in the headlines — not just for the stories we write, but for the recognition PHOENIX has earned. With every win came celebrations.

“Take a shot for every medal won” — easy.
“Take a shot for qualifying to the next level” — piece of cake.
“Take a shot for a podium finish” — no problem.

But what if shots weren’t drinks… but bullets? Would you still raise your glass, or would you brace for impact?
Because here’s the truth: behind every issue we publish are stories we fight to keep alive — and stories we’re forced to protect in silence. So to say, words are powerful, but so are the forces that try to silence them.

Thus, here’s my shot — not the kind you celebrate, but the ones you take when it matters most: 𝗙𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵, 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝘁 𝘀𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗲. Because if it doesn’t burn a little… was it ever real enough?

And that’s the price of telling it as it is: bitter, bold, and sometimes brutal. But someone has to take the first sip.

So hurry now, hold my bottle — I’ve got stories to write.

There was once a little child, so oblivious and innocent, walking upon the earth with no worries in mind. Yet one day, he stumbled upon a book glistened with gold, its pages heavier to heart than it is to eyes.

Upon skimming through the pages, the child became furious. Like any young, he was arrogant with an ego as fragile as brittle ice — easy to break, and easy to dissipate. Thus, he slew the goose before it even laid its first golden egg, leaving it behind for the earth to retake.

Pitiful, indeed. For written in that book was such:

"You are coal, the lowest of the low. And the world is diamond, valuable beyond measure."

Now pray tell dear reader. In this world, what is truly valuable? Is it the cold, bitter, and dirty truth? Or the sweet, luxurious lies? Because value is subjective, but one always hold more weight than the other.

You are not a fish that needs to climb the tree.

Any adult would know, it is rarity that breeds value. And in that instance, coal was rarer than diamonds.

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐈 𝐛𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐈 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐰?

I always love working by the windowsill, feeling the cold breeze grazing my skin while my thoughts are running free to finish a sentence. Coupled with the chirping sounds of the bird passing by and the rustles of the leaves, it completely seals how I romanticized college life. Sometimes, people would look up to my window, eyes scrutinizing why I burden myself with the stubborn habit of writing by the windowsill, though I can always tell whether they are merely curious onlookers or silently questioning my very existence.

But then, I also dislike it when when the wind become aggressive, flipping my notebook's pages into another and creating a mess on my hair. Nor I like the raucous chatters of everyone outside my window. And still, I let it open. Because sometimes, the wind scattered my notes, revealing some unforgotten lines needed. Other times, it brings whispers of what is really happening outside.

And these "mess" somehow reminds me why I opened my window in the first place.
