One door closes, another one opens—and for our freshmen, this is the first step into an exciting new world. They’ve gone through a lot to get here, and now begins a journey of new experiences, new friendships, and unforgettable memories.

Yes, stepping out of your comfort zone can be scary—but it’s also the doorway to growth. At first, students may feel shy and unsure, but soon enough, they start to bloom. Schools are not just places to learn—they’re workshops where hidden talents are discovered and nurtured.

As Dr. Arlene Castor puts it:

“I encourage you to explore, ask questions, and see how your organization speaks to your interests and passions. This is your chance to start building your network and your circle of support while also finding ways to contribute to our school community. Get involved early—you’ll be surprised how much you can accomplish and how much you can grow when you step out of your comfort zone.”

One freshman confessed, “I am nervous.” But nerves mean you care. They mean you’re ready to try new things. Like a plant needing sunlight and water, you’ll thrive with passion and purpose. Because college isn’t just about challenges—it’s about growth, transformation, and finding the best and finding the best version of yourself.

𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗛𝗠𝗘𝗡 𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗪𝗘𝗘𝗞 2025: 𝗔 𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗕𝗘𝗚𝗜𝗡𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗔𝗧 𝗪𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗠𝗘𝗔𝗗 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗦𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗢𝗟

Excitement and anticipation filled the halls of Westmead International School (WIS) as the newest batch of Westmead Warriors officially began their college journey during Freshmen Orientation Week 2025, held from August 11–16. The weeklong event went beyond the usual orientations, offering activities designed to welcome, guide, and empower students as they step into a new chapter of their academic lives.

The celebration kicked off with the General Orientation, where Dr. Marites D. Manlongat, Vice President for Academic Affairs warmly welcomed the students and introduced them to WIS’s policies, facilities, and academic expectations. Her message inspired the freshmen to embrace challenges with confidence and determination.

On Day 2, attention turned to financial support opportunities through the Scholarship and Financial Assistance Orientation. Freshmen were encouraged to view education not only as a privilege but also as a chance to dream bigger and work harder with the help of WIS’s scholarship programs.

The following day highlighted the Department Orientations, where students met their Deans and Program Heads to learn more about their chosen courses and academic pathways. These sessions provided a clearer roadmap for their college journey.

Day 4 centered on the Student Handbook and the services of the Office of Student Services (OSS). With discussions on policies, guidelines, and support systems, the orientation emphasized discipline, responsibility, and the importance of student welfare.

The week’s energy peaked on Day 5 with the Freshmen General Assembly, led by the Student Council and Organization Officers. Games, activities, booths, and giveaways brought students together, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and fun.

To cap off the week, the NSTP Orientation introduced students to the values of service, teamwork, and social responsibility, preparing them for their role not just as learners but also as future servant-leaders.

Freshmen Week 2025 was more than a rite of passage—it was a powerful reminder that at WIS, students are nurtured not only as learners but as dreamers, innovators, doers, and leaders of tomorrow.

The NSTP Orientation for Freshmen is currently taking place at the WIS Gymnasium. This event welcomes first-year students as they begin their journey in the National Service Training Program, guided by the NSTP coordinator, Prof. Antonio Maligaya, Dr. Regie D. Abila (LTS Coordinator), Ms. Eunice D. Olan (CWTS Coordinator), and ROTC Officers. Freshmen also receive encouragement and inspiring words from NSTP graduates, sharing their experiences and the valuable lessons they gained from the program.

The Freshmen General Assembly is filled with energy as new students are welcomed to campus. Different clubs and organizations, led by the WIS Student Council, prepared booths and fun activities.

The event helps freshmen meet new friends, explore opportunities, and experience student life at WIS. A great start for the newest Westmeadians.

The Day 2 of the Freshmen General Orientation (Module 2) is currently taking place at Westmead International School, starting earlier today at 8:00 AM in Room 202, EDC Building.

The whole day is dedicated to the Scholarship and Financial Assistance Orientation, discussed by Prof. Rosana De Chavez, School Registrar and Director of the Testing, Admission, and Scholarship Office. The goal of the orientation is to help freshmen understand the rules and grade requirements they need to follow to keep their scholarships. This includes students under the WASTFI Full Scholarship, Gawad Kabataan, and Financial Discount Programs. Prof. De Chavez explained the retention policy, which means students must maintain certain grades and follow the guidelines to continue receiving support.

The orientation runs in three batches: 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM, 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM, and 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM. The last batch, now in session, is composed of students from BS Mechanical Engineering, BS Civil Engineering, BS Electrical Engineering, BS Electronics Engineering, BS Industrial Engineering, BS Computer Engineering, BS Computer Science, and BS Information Technology.

The Freshmen General Orientation (Module 1) is currently underway at Westmead International School. The first batch, comprised of students from BS Psychology, BA Political Science, BA Communication, BS Public Administration, and BS Criminology, attended from 8:00 AM to 10:30 AM.

The second batch, scheduled from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM, includes students from Bachelor of Early Childhood Education, Bachelor of Secondary Education, BS Tourism Management, BS Hospitality Management, BS Accountancy, BS Business Administration, AB Economics, BS Entrepreneurship, and BS Customs Administration.

The afternoon session, from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM, will host students from BS Mechanical Engineering, BS Civil Engineering, BS Electrical Engineering, BS Electronics Engineering, BS Industrial Engineering, BS Computer Engineering, BS Computer Science, and BS Information Technology. All sessions are being held at Room 202, EDC Building.

𝗪𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗠𝗘𝗔𝗗 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗦𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗢𝗟, 𝗔𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗻, 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝘀 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆— Students from Grades 6 to 10 of the Westmead Academy of Science and Technology Foundation Inc. (WASTFI) participated in a Campus Journalism Workshop titled “BYLINE:Building Young Leaders in News and Expression” on Friday, April 11, 2025.

The one-day workshop aimed to enhance students’ journalistic skills through focused sessions on News Writing, Photojournalism, Editorial Writing, and Feature Writing. The event featured Mr. John Albert Silva, a Communication Lecturer and a former publication adviser, as the guest speaker and facilitator.

The day began with a lecture on the fundamentals of journalism, covering key principles and techniques in reporting, writing, and ethics. At 1:00 PM, students were divided into breakout sessions based on their chosen writing fields. Each group received hands-on guidance from the editorial team of BEYOND BORDERS: The Official Publication of Westmead International School, led by adviser Ms. Eunice D. Olan, with support from WASTFI faculty.

During the sessions, students worked on their own journalistic pieces while receiving feedback and mentorship. Topics included writing leads, organizing content, capturing compelling photos, and expressing opinions through editorials.

The event concluded with a short awarding ceremony recognizing the students' participation and the guest facilitator's contribution. The workshop was made possible through the support and encouragement of the school’s Directress, Dr. Arlene D. Castor.

The successful event not only empowered students with essential journalism skills but also fostered confidence, creativity, and a deeper sense of purpose—marking another meaningful step in WASTFI’s mission to shape future-ready leaders.
