⚠️ ATTENTION ALL SENIOR CITIZENS & PWD CARDHOLDERS: KNOW YOUR TAX RIGHTS! ⚠️
Have you ever tried to redeem a discounted food deal or coupon on a fast-food mobile app, only for the cashier to tell you, "Bawal po ang PWD/Senior discount kasi naka-promo na po ito"?
That is a flat-out lie, and it is a blatant violation of national law. ❌
Many establishments are taking advantage of cardholders by misinterpreting the "No Double Discount" rule. Let’s clear up the facts so you don’t get cheated out of your hard-earned money:
1. VAT Exemption is NOT a "Discount"
The law (R.A. 10754) states that a consumer cannot combine two commercial discounts (e.g., combining a 20% store promo with your 20% PWD/SC discount). However, Value-Added Tax (VAT) Exemption is a statutory tax immunity status granted by the government—it is NOT a store discount.
Even if you are buying an item that is already on a massive promotional sale, the establishment is legally obligated to strip the 12% VAT off the price before you pay.
2. Check Your Receipts Immediately!
The next time you redeem an app coupon or promo deal at the counter or kiosk:
· Check the bottom lines of your official receipt.
· Look closely at the "VAT Exempt Sales" or "VAT Exemption" field.
· If it says 0.00, they illegally charged you 12% tax from which you are legally immune.
3. Check the App’s Fine Print
Large corporations know the law, even if their branch managers and cashiers do not. If you look closely at the Terms & Conditions screen of most major fast-food app deals, their corporate policies explicitly state:
*“Promotional discount or the 20% discount, whichever is higher, applies... VAT exemption applies on all eligible SC/PWD purchases.”*
🛑 What to do if a branch refuses your rights:
1. Do not back down. Point out the exact terms and conditions page right inside their own app.
2. Take photos. Document the promotional screen, take a photo of your receipt showing the illegal "0.00 VAT" trail, and note down the cashier’s name and store branch.
3. Report them. You have the power to file a formal complaint with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) for illegal tax collection and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for deceptive promo practices. First-time corporate violations carry massive mandatory fines ranging from ₱50,000 to ₱200,000.
Do not let these establishments treat our statutory civil rights as optional store policies. We are not asking for a favor—we are demanding compliance with the law.

🚨 Personal Update: I was just a victim of this.
Just yesterday, I personally experienced this blatant discrimination and illegal tax collection at a major fast-food branch here in Pangasinan. Despite presenting my valid PWD ID, they flatly refused my VAT exemption for an app coupon, leaving me with a receipt showing an illegal 0.00 VAT Exemption.
They even had the nerve to call me later to offer "free extra rice" to try and sweep a federal law violation under the rug. Well, I am not accepting the rice. I have already officially filed a formal complaint with the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) to address the blatant discrimination and violation of the Magna Carta for PWDs. I will also be submitting the remaining formal legal complaints to the BIR, DTI, and the Mayor's Office first thing Monday morning.
Can you guess which global fast-food giant did this? 🍟🍔
Hint: Their primary color is bright yellow, their logo is literally the most famous set of "Golden Arches" in human history. Love ko 'to? Not right now.
Be vigilant, check your receipts, and let's stop these giants from stepping on our rights! ✊
