THE PATHWAY OF FAITH
Trust God and obey Him today, even if you don't understand what He's doing.
August 1, 2025
Genesis 12:1-3

Faith is the foundation of the Christian life. Hebrews 11:1 gives us the biblical definition: “Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” True belief is more than something we say; it is a path we follow. Throughout life, God takes us on a journey, allowing us to experience a real relationship with Him as we face each circumstance.

Today’s passage illustrates that God has a purpose for everything we encounter. After promising Abraham descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky (Genesis 15:5), the Lord directed him to obey several commands. Abraham was not told the details of this plan but, thankfully, trusted God anyway. Though the soon-to-be patriarch didn’t obey perfectly, he did step forward in faith, believing in the Lord’s ultimate purpose.

We can know that God is orchestrating a beautiful plan for us, too. He reveals what the next step will be (Psalm 119:105), and our job is to obey, even when it doesn’t seem to make sense.

If you want to know what the Lord is doing in your life, obey Him. Even when you don’t understand the intricacies of the plan, you can trust the goodness of His heart. Rest assured that all He does is purposeful and for your benefit. So step forward in faith and experience His loving care.

NO EXCEPTIONS TO GOD'S LOVE
God has proven and repeatedly affirmed His great and eternal love for you—open your heart to receive it.
July 31, 2025
Romans 5:6-9

If you’ve been to church, then you’ve likely heard that God loves you and has a plan for your life. Do you believe that? Some, sadly, have decided verses like “For God so loved the world ...” (John 3:16) don’t apply to them. They think they’re too weak, sinful, or broken to merit the Lord’s love.

God thinks you are special. Because of the heavenly Father’s love for the world, He sent His Son to die on the cross as a sacrifice for the sins of everyone living in the past, present, or future. None of us deserve His care and protection, but thankfully, deserving isn’t the basis for His love. In fact, God’s very nature is love (1 John 4:8), which He demonstrated through Christ’s death “while we were yet sinners” (Rom. 5:8).

God cares so much for His children that He gives each one a unique place in His plan for the world. His followers are gifted with the specific abilities and attributes needed to carry out His individualized purpose for them in His kingdom (1 Corinthians 12:11).

The Lord loves you. He says so again and again in the Scriptures. That may be challenging to accept, especially if you’ve been mistreated by others—but don’t let those experiences detract from how He wants to bless you. Read His Word for yourself and see how deeply He cares for you, His beloved child.

FORMULA FOR PERSONAL GROWTH
As you read the Bible today, ask God to show you how to live the truth He reveals.
July 30, 2025
James 1:22-25

Growing in Christ involves more than just attending church, tithing, and listening to sermons. There are two necessary elements: instruction and involvement.

Our Savior proved the importance of instruction by devoting much of His time to it. And the apostle Paul wrote many letters to educate Christians about godliness. For every believer, learning truth is vital to a healthy walk with God.

So how can we gain knowledge and understanding? One of the most effective ways is to read the Word of God. Scripture instructs us that just as newborns crave milk, we are to desire His Word so that we might grow.

Yet simply listening to the truth does not mean that we’ve acquired it. We have to apply the Word to our life. Even so, actual growth requires more than merely inputting information—it requires action. James 2:26 states, “For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.”

Are we listening intently and abiding in the truth? If we’re truly maturing, our life will be increasingly Christlike, and our desires will align more closely with God’s heart.

GIVING GOD GLORY
Through our choices, we have the privilege of revealing God's love to those around us.
July 29, 2025
Romans 15:5-11

As Jesus looked to the cross, His request was that He might glorify His Father (John 17:1). Though we aren’t called to such a great sacrifice, we should share in our Savior’s desire. From the moment we wake up each morning and as the day unfolds, our request should be, “Father, glorify Yourself.” In the simplest tasks as well as in the hardest ones, a Christian’s longing should be to reflect God to others.

When we pray for His glorification, we’re saying, “Lord, do whatever will bring You honor and make You known.” It means we are surrendering our preferences, acknowledging that God in His sovereignty will choose what will bring honor to His name.

There will always be some who reject the Son of God and refuse to believe in Him. But our desire should be the same as our Father’s—for people everywhere to know Him. God calls us to praise His name and reveal Him. The way we honor the Lord is by worshipping in our churches, testifying to His work in our life, and proclaiming the truth of His holy Word in our community.

Through our attitudes, actions, and words, we have the privilege of revealing our Father to a world that desperately needs Him. Let us join together, united in love, to give Him glory.

THE PURSUIT OF GLORY
Our life should revolve around God and His purposes—not our personal dreams and goals.
July 28, 2025
1 Peter 4:7-11

When we become Christ followers, our view of life should change. No longer are we the center of our world; the Lord is (Galatians 2:20). It’s essential that we switch our thinking to a Christian worldview, because what we believe dictates how we behave.

As believers, we are to search Scripture to find answers for life’s questions, such as: Where did I come from? (Genesis 1:1-31); What happens when I die? (John 14:1-4); How do I explain human behavior? (Romans 3:9-18); How can I determine right from wrong? (2 Timothy 3:16); and What is my purpose? (Isa. 43:7). If we have biblical answers—that is, a Christian worldview—we will think and behave in ways that delight our heavenly Father.

The most vital question is, What is important to God? From the Bible, we learn that all of nature declares the glory of God (Psalm 19:1), the chief aim of man is to glorify the Lord, and Jesus’ coming to earth in the form of a man revealed God’s glory.

We too easily fall into thinking that the world revolves around us and that the Lord’s work is mainly about our needs, wants, and pleasures. But the truth is that life is all about God and making much of Him. Let us change our thinking, bow humbly before our heavenly Father, and join others in praising Him.

GOD’S PATHWAY OF GOODNESS
Are you on the path God has chosen for you, or have you drifted off course?
July 27, 2025
Psalms 25:8-13

To experience the fullness of God’s kindness, we must honor Him with our submission and obedience. He will never withhold His goodness from those who walk uprightly with Him (Psalm 84:11).

In love and wisdom, the Father has specifically designed a plan for each of His children (Jeremiah 29:11). Since no two people are alike, each path will look different; for that reason, comparing God’s ways in your life with how He works in others’ lives can lead to discouragement and misjudgment. We have neither the wisdom nor the eternal perspective to understand why some people face hardship, but we can know He’s at work through it.

Every step on God’s pathway represents an ongoing choice to follow Him. By looking around instead of fixing our eyes on Jesus, we may start thinking that we’re missing out on some good experiences or possessions. If we leave the Lord’s course, we will forfeit some of His good blessings and discover, as Adam and Eve did, that any other way leads to loss.

Take time to ask yourself, Am I on the path the Lord has chosen for me, or have I taken a detour to follow another direction that looks good? Building our own course and ignoring the goodness and abundance of His pathway is never a good idea because God alone knows the way we should take.

DISCERNING GOD’S GOODNESS
Some of God's gifts are experiences we wouldn't choose, but they are always beneficial.
July 26, 2025
Psalms 31:19-24

Because the goodness of God is perfect, He alone can accurately determine what is best for each person. His kindness is expressed in more ways than simply the provision of wealth, health, and relationships. Some divine gifts are experiences we would never choose, but the Lord knows we need them in order to grow in faith, obedience, and perseverance.

Consider these expressions of God’s goodness toward us:

* Loving Discipline. Since God’s love is unfailing, He corrects us when we need it. The process is painful, but the result is “the peaceful fruit of righteousness” (Hebrews 12:11).

* Wise Limitations. With His perfect insight, the Lord lovingly withholds things that would be detrimental to us spiritually.

* Useful Suffering. God knows which refining experiences we need in order to become fruitful in His kingdom. What appears to us as a valley of hardship is His place of preparation for godliness and service.

It can be tempting to interpret God’s character on the basis of our circumstances. But when evidence compels us to doubt His goodness, it’s important to remember this: His gifts may come in a variety of shapes and sizes but are always beneficial. As Psalm 34:8 says, “O taste and see that the Lord is good.”

THE HOLY SPIRIT: FILLING THE BELIEVER
The Holy Spirit will fill believers who follow His directions.
July 25, 2025
Ephesians 5:15-21

At the moment of salvation, we were permanently indwelled by the Holy Spirit. From then on, God’s Spirit will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). But being filled with the Spirit—that is, being led by Him—requires something of us: submission.

Unless we submit to the Lord’s authority, we’ll miss out on things He wants to accomplish in and through us. We need His power in order to overcome sin, to become the people He designed us to be, and to complete the work He has called us to do. The filling of the Spirit is His provision for this kind of supernatural living.

The Lord has various ways of motivating us to desire His fullness above all else. Sometimes He plants within us a deep longing to be closer to Him. Other times He leverages our failures and feelings of inadequacy that result from trying to live in our own strength. God may even use the example of other believers to inspire us.

The Holy Spirit promises to fill every believer who is willing to yield all aspects of life to Him. This isn’t an instantaneous event, but a gradual removal of a desire for self-rule. As the heavenly Father reveals an area that you have kept under your own control, surrender it and let Him fill you with His Spirit.

RESPONDING TO HARDSHIP
In the midst of pain, cling to God and keep doing what is right.
July 24, 2025
1 Peter 4:12-19

When you face a trial, what is your first response? You probably try to escape it as quickly as possible. Though this is a common goal, God likely has a different plan in mind.

First, trust Him. Believe God’s Word and reflect on ways He has been faithful in the past. He is with us in our trials and enables us to endure.

Second, persevere. Even when we don’t understand and the suffering seems too great to bear, we should never quit. Continue seeking the Lord through His Word and prayer. Cling to hope in Christ, and praise Him in the midst of the pain.

Third, remember that our sovereign God is in control. He’s allowing this adversity for a reason and will demonstrate His sustaining power through it. Even if the pain feels intolerable, the Lord always uses such moments to help His children grow. Scripture compares our spiritual development to gold, which is refined through fire (1 Peter 1:7).

We will encounter difficulties—sometimes intense and painful trials that seem too great for us to overcome. Yet we can rely on our heavenly Father to deliver and mature us in ways we could never imagine. He doesn’t demand that we endure on our own but instead gently asks us to respond and trust Him.
