Imagine, you were there spending the tax
payers money to negotiate to lower the
tariff but then you only got 1% off from

not clearly negotiating. Maybe he's just

Guanzon Sumab0g sa 20% Tax sa Ipon: “Ang liit-liit na nga ng kinikita, babawasan niyo pa? Mga inutil talaga!”

Naglabas ng matinding galit si dating COA at Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon matapos ipatupad ang bagong buwis sa lahat ng interest income mula sa mga deposito sa bangko—kahit pa matagal nang nakatengga ang pera.

Simula Hulyo 1, ipinatupad ng mga bangko ang uniform 20% final withholding tax (FWT) alinsunod sa Capital Markets Efficiency Promotion Act (CMEPA). Sakop nito ang lahat ng deposito—peso man o foreign currency, short-term o long-term. Maging ang dating 0% tax sa mga peso time deposit na higit sa 5 taon, wala nang ligtas.

Ayon kay Guanzon:

“Ang liit-liit na nga ng nakukuhang interest sa bangko ng mga may ipon, babawasan niyo pa? Mga inutil talaga!”

Giit niya, tila walang pakialam ang gobyerno sa mga masisipag na Pilipinong marunong mag-impok. Sa halip na makitang ginagamit nang maayos ang buwis sa mga makabuluhang proyekto, wala raw maramdaman ang taumbayan.

“Puro kayo tax, buti sana kung sa magandang project napupunta kaso hindi, hindi nga namin makita at maramdaman.”

Hindi rin napigilan ni Guanzon ang inis sa tila mas pinapaboran pa ang mga umaasa lang sa ayuda:

“Tigilan niyo kakadagdag ng buwis na pahirap sa mga Pilipino lalo na yung naghahanapbuhay ng maayos, alisin niyo yang ayuda ni tamby sa mga tambay.”

Depensa ng mga bangko, layunin daw ng CMEPA na gawing “mas patas” ang tax system at iayon ang Pilipinas sa pandaigdigang pamantayan. Pero sa gitna ng patong-patong na buwis, parami nang parami ang umaangal: Para kanino ba talaga ang repormang ito?
