Marcoleta Slams JBC Over Remulla’s Ombudsman Nomination
Warns “Law Can Be Bent” Mindset Undermines Rule of Law

Senate Deputy Minority Leader Rodante Marcoleta has raised red flags over the Judicial and Bar Council’s (JBC) decision to include Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla in the shortlist for Ombudsman, questioning the integrity of the process and warning that endorsing a nominee who believes “the law can be bent” could erode the very foundation of the rule of law.

During confirmation hearings for retired Justice Jose Mendoza’s JBC appointment, Marcoleta pointed to inconsistencies in the council’s handling of complaints, contrasting it with past disqualifications like that of former Senator Leila de Lima. He urged greater scrutiny and accountability in vetting high-stakes appointments.
