Graduate Education in the AI Era: WU-P Engages at PAGE 2025

The Graduate School of Wesleyan University-Philippines (WU-P), represented by Dr. John Mark F. Bondoc (Dean), Dr. Ferdinand Romano, Dr. Marlon Sumait, Dr. Ali Mamaclay, Prof. Maria Karmela Del Rosario, and Prof. Alyssa Bea Asprec, participated in the 56th Annual National Convention and General Assembly of the Philippine Association for Graduate Education (PAGE), Inc., held on September 4–6, 2025, at the University of the Cordilleras, Baguio City, with the theme “Advancing Philippine Graduate Education Through Artificial Intelligence.”

“The gathering of educators, administrators, and researchers nationwide reflected the urgent need to explore Artificial Intelligence in advancing SDG 4: Quality Education by ensuring that graduate learning remains transformative, innovative, and globally competitive,” commented Dr. Bondoc.

The three-day convention highlighted AI’s growing role in teaching, research, assessment, and program development. Day 1 introduced cutting-edge tools such as SciSpace AI, NotebookLM, and Gamma, while clarifying myths about AI’s use in higher education. Day 2 emphasized ethical and responsible integration, featuring frameworks like RRGCC for prompt engineering and tools such as Turnitin Clarity to safeguard academic integrity. Day 3 underscored SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions by calling for clear, context-driven AI governance and policies that align institutional practices with ethical and human-centered values.

For WU-P, the sessions reinforced the principle of being “AI-enabled but human-empowered,” underscoring that technology should augment rather than replace human intelligence. This balanced approach responded to SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, recognizing AI as a tool to accelerate innovation in graduate education while ensuring inclusivity, integrity, and social responsibility. By integrating these perspectives, graduate institutions could safeguard academic excellence while preparing learners for a rapidly evolving digital future.

Through its involvement in PAGE 2025, WU-P reaffirmed its commitment to SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by engaging with academic leaders nationwide in shaping the future of graduate education. The knowledge and insights gained would further enrich WU-P’s programs, ensuring that its graduates remain globally competent, ethically grounded, and equipped to lead in an AI-driven world.
