"The Days Of Noah"

By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in godly fear built an ark to save his family. By faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.

We should pay close attention to the description of the "days of Noah," for our Lord said that the end of this present age would be similar to those times (Matthew 24:37-39). In Noah’s day, civilization had made great strides in the arts and the comforts of life. But, as often happens in human history, this progress in luxury led to rampant immorality, cruelty, and widespread indifference to God. The same kinds of things happen today in the great cities of the world, where sin abounds, and people live without concern for God. They went on with life as usual—eating, drinking, marrying—until the flood came and swept them away.

In the midst of all this, Noah lived a righteous life, walking in daily fellowship with God (Genesis 6:8-9). His friendship with God allowed him to know God’s plans. As Scripture says, “The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him, and He will show them His covenant.”

Stay close to God, so that you may hear His still, small voice. Our greatest joy is found in walking with Him in unbroken fellowship, entering into His covenant. Through even one person who is fully devoted to Him, God can save others. We too will cross the flood of death and enter the new life of resurrection. But we must be sensitive to His voice and quick to carry out His will.

"Celebrating the Resurrection"

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

The resurrection of Jesus changes the face of death for all His people. Death is no longer a prison, but a passage into God's presence.

Our hearts are glad this morning, our Father, as we welcome this new Sunday. Everything within us rejoices and praises You. May our lives rise from the shadows of death into beauty and blessedness.

We thank You for all that the resurrection of Jesus means to us: that death could not hold Him, that He lives now to intercede for us in Heaven, and also to be our Friend and Companion in this world. May the gifts of His grace be poured out upon us. May the Holy Spirit fill our hearts and enrich our lives.

Prepare us for the work and worship of this day. Bless the words we have read from Your holy word. May they become in us divine inspirations, kindling holy thoughts, pure desires, aspirations after holiness, and a love that will make our lives like altars of incense before You.

Bless our home life on this day of rest. Draw us closer together as a family. May our love become deeper, more tender, and more unselfish as we join in worship. May Your blessing rest upon those who preach Your word and upon all who gather for worship. We pray especially for those who carry Your word to those in need. May they have Your power, and may their ministries be blessed.

We give ourselves to You for this day. We desire to make it a day unstained by sinful thoughts or words, a day for receiving new measures of the Holy Spirit, a day for coming very close to Jesus, a day for giving out blessings to others. Forgive us all our sins. Cleanse and purify our lives. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

We thank You, our Father, for the wonders of the universe that night reveals. We couldn't see the stars while it was day; they were hidden in the brightness of the light. But when the sun went down, all these glories appeared. All these are Your works, O God. It comforts us to remember that our Father made all these marvelous things. Surely You are able to take care of us, Your little children.

We also thank You for the blessings that other nights reveal. You have a thousand comforts in Your love that we don't see while the sun of prosperity shines. It's only when we have some trouble that we begin to understand the meaning of Your promises. It's only when we lose human friends that we find You as the Friend of friends. It's only when we lose earthly treasures that we begin to value the invisible treasures of Your grace. So we thank You for every loss that has revealed a gain and a blessing. We thank You for every sorrow that has made You more real to us. We thank You for the hard paths that have made us trust more fully in You. We thank You for the darkening of day that has brought out the stars of hope in our night. Help us always to believe that when You take away one blessing, You give us another that is even better.

We ask now that You will make all this day's experiences work for our good. Bless us as a family, and give each of us a personal blessing. Hold us in the arms of Your love while we sleep, and let no evil befall us. Shelter all our loved ones and hear their prayers. Bring us all home at last, through Your love, to the sinless world with You, for Jesus' sake. Amen.

"The Old Testament and the New"

Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have not come to abolish them, but to fulfill them.

There aren’t two Bibles in one. The Old Testament and New Testament aren’t two separate books but parts of the same. The New Testament doesn’t replace the Old—it’s the rich, ripe harvest of what the Old Testament planted. The gospel of the New Testament isn’t a different religion from what we find in the Old Testament. It’s the same message, more fully developed and more clearly taught. In the Old Testament, Christ was foretold through promises, pictures, and types. In the New Testament, these promises are fulfilled, and these pictures and types are realized as we see the Son of God living among us in His incarnation.

Blossoms aren’t destroyed when they fall away and fruit appears. The ripe fruit is the fulfillment of the blossom’s promise. An artist’s rough sketch isn’t destroyed when the finished painting covers the canvas—the completed work is the fulfillment of the original drawing, bringing it to life.

Christ didn’t destroy anything in the Old Testament when He came. He was like the warm summer sun, bringing life to the seeds and buds of prophecy, causing them to grow and flourish. He was the great Master who took the dim shadows of the Old Testament and filled them out with His life and death. So we shouldn’t set aside the Old Testament as an outdated book with no value. The Old Testament is full of treasures. One of the strongest proofs of Christianity is the way Old Testament prophecies were fulfilled in the life, sufferings, and death of Jesus Christ. Let us love the whole Bible—none of it is obsolete.
