Twenty-six years have passed, yet the ache of your absence remains as vivid as the day you left. Mother's Day always brings a bittersweet wave of memories – memories of a childhood etched with hardship, yet overflowing with your unwavering love. I remember your tireless search for sustenance, ensuring we always had food on the table, even when times were impossibly tough. We may have lacked material possessions, but your love was our greatest wealth. You taught me contentment, patience, and gratitude – lessons more valuable than any riches.
You were my father, my best friend, my biggest fan, my superhero. You believed in me, even when I doubted myself, and your unwavering support propelled me through school. The prospect of working abroad at 21 filled me with joy – the chance to repay your sacrifices, to make you a queen, to travel the world together, to finally give you the life you deserved. But fate, cruel and unforgiving, snatched those dreams away. That stroke, a week before my departure, shattered my carefully constructed future. The agonizing decision to leave you, even as you battled paralysis, remains a heavy weight on my heart. The plans to shower you with gifts, to build a home for us, transformed into sending money for your medical care. Five long years you fought, and I was powerless to be by your side as you finally succumbed.
The pain of your passing, Mama, is a constant companion. The dreams we shared, now just echoes in my heart. I struggle to find the same drive, the same ambition I once possessed. Everything feels… pointless.
But today, on Mother's Day, I want to celebrate you. I want to remind everyone how incredibly blessed they are to have their mothers by their side. Cherish them, love them fiercely, and show them your gratitude while you still can. For those who have the means to repay their mothers' sacrifices, do it now. Don't wait. We only have one mother.
