The Department of Health (DOH) has noted a rise in Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) cases across different parts of the Philippines, often observed during the onset of the amihan season. According to DOH data reported by the Philippine News Agency, 127,749 ILI cases were recorded from January to October this year, marking a slight decline from the same period last year, but still calling for public vigilance. While the increase may appear concerning, the DOH assured that the situation is not an outbreak and remains under control. Health facilities are on standby, and surveillance systems continue to monitor trends nationwide. The department emphasized that this seasonal rise is expected as cooler weather conditions allow respiratory viruses, including influenza, to spread more easily.
๐ฉบ Be informed: Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) refers to a respiratory infection that can cause fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, headache, body aches, and fatigue. These symptoms may resemble the flu and could worsen if left untreated.
The DOH reminds the public to continue observing preventive measures; wash or disinfect hands regularly, wear a mask in crowded places, cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, and stay home if you feel unwell. For those experiencing persistent or severe symptoms, immediate consultation with a healthcare professional is strongly advised.
โThis is not an outbreak but a timely reminder for everyone to stay alert and practice proper hygiene,โ the DOH stated in its advisory. (philstar.com)
