Lakan Film Collective is currently working on a full-length documentary called *Historic Days with Xiao*, chronicling the life of Filipino historian Xiao Chua and his role as a public historian.

In this episode, Xiao Chua attends the 37th anniversary of the People Power Revolution that toppled the administration of Ferdinand Marcos Sr. The 37th anniversary in 2023 was the first commemoration under the administration of Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.

Our full-length documentary, Historic Days with Xiao has been selected to participate in the prestigious DocedgeKolkata 2025, an Asian Forum for Documentary. 🎬

DocedgeKolkata is one the most vibrant documentary platforms in Asia, creating co-production opportunities and creative collaborations for independent filmmakers—and an opportunity to be part of this forum will allow us to further refine our vision, collaborate with industry experts, and take our docufilm to new heights. ✨

Being part of this lab is an honor, and we are beyond excited to work with talented mentors and fellow filmmakers who are passionate about storytelling. We can’t wait to share more of our journey as we continue to develop Historic Days with Xiao.

A PelikuLakan bound to San Diego, California!

Our short documentary Ang Aroma ng Darang (Scent of Warmth) is having its premiere at the 4th San Diego Filipino Film Festival from October 1-6 at the AMC Theater Plaza Bonita, San Diego, California.

This cultural documentary introduces Mang Ramon, an albularyo who practices a ritualistic method of diagnosing ailments, and Michael, a hilot who uses traditional hand manipulation and anointed medicinal oils. Both explains how Gamutang Filipino heals not just through spiritual rituals or herbs alone, but also through the warmth and scent produced by their practices.

The docu tackles beliefs, healing processes, evil spirits—and the most pressing issue of all: costly hospital bills.

Our docufilm is heading to Dhaka DocLab! 🎬

Just in time for History Month, we’re happy to announce that our documentary film, Makasaysayang mga Araw with Xiao (Historic Days with Xiao) is bound for Bangladesh for the Dhaka DocLab 2024.

Lakan has been working on this documentary with Xiao Chua for almost two years now, and it is our honor to be the Philippines’ representative in the pioneer platform for pitching and mentoring for Asian documentary filmmakers.

We are excited to be part of this opportunity to share Filipino talent, culture, and history. And above all else, to learn more from the eminent mentors of this year’s lab.

We are more than happy to announce that Lakan Film Collective’s socio-fantasy short film was selected for the 2023 Las Vegas Filipino Short Film Festival!

The creation of “Si Jet at ang Dark Lord ng Dol Gurskul”, during the COVID-19 pandemic was both bittersweet and overwhelming—made possible by the collective effort and support of everyone.
