Did you know?
Did you know one of NASA’s most important human computers had to run nearly half a mile… just to use the bathroom?
Her name was **Katherine Johnson**, and she was one of the brilliant mathematicians who helped NASA send astronauts into space.
But at the time, the facility where she worked had segregated bathrooms.
The nearest bathroom available to her was about **half a mile away**.
So during her workday, Katherine could spend around **40 minutes just walking to and from the bathroom**.
And instead of giving up, she kept doing the calculations that helped make space history.
Her work contributed to **John Glenn’s 1962 orbital mission**, helping NASA safely send an American astronaut around Earth.
Imagine losing 40 minutes every day just because of segregation—then becoming one of the people who helped America reach space.
