BAGONG PNP IN ACTION: SWIFT POLICE RESPONSE SAVES MOTHER AND CHILD IN CAGAYAN

Following the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to ensure that public service is felt by every Filipino even in the most unexpected moments, the Philippine National Police under the leadership of Acting Chief PNP PLTGen Jose Melencio C Nartatez Jr, once again demonstrated compassion and dedication as police officers in Tuao, Cagayan, helped deliver a baby in the middle of a checkpoint early morning of October 28, 2025.

At around 3:30 a.m. in Barangay San Luis, personnel of the San Luis Forward Operating Base, 202nd Maneuver Company, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 2, led by Police Lieutenant Paolo Kyle T. Apostol, were conducting a checkpoint operation when a tricycle suddenly stopped nearby. Onboard was 21-year-old mother, who was experiencing labor pains, accompanied by her husband Daniel R. Bumatay, 26.

Without hesitation, the officers acted quickly and assisted the woman in safely delivering her baby on the roadside at around 3:38 a.m. The mother and newborn were immediately brought to Bulagao District Hospital for proper medical care, where both were later reported to be in stable condition.

“This is the true essence of Serbisyong Mabilis, Tama, at Nararamdaman — police officers who respond not only to crimes but also to cries for help,” said Acting Chief PNP Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr.

“Our men in uniform are driven by compassion and duty. In moments like this, they show that the PNP is indeed a force for life and humanity,” PLTGen Nartatez further added.

PNP Spokesperson and Chief of the Public Information Office, Police Brigadier General Randulf T. Tuaño, also commended the team’s act of service:

“When we say Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas, this is what we mean — a police force that reaches out with heart and humanity. Their swift response not only saved lives but reaffirmed the trust of our people in their police.”
