Once upon a time, when people lived and is connected with nature before clocks ticked and cathedrals towered, the world served the might of the Moon. The Earth's first calendar echoed itself through and within women, not measured or carved by kings and popes. Thirteen moons, twenty-eight days each, reflected the phases of the menstrual cycle that connected a womanโs body to the tides, the seeds, and the stars. Women were once seen as nurturers of nature, the living personification of the universeโs heartbeat.
However, men decided to own time.
As the Roman Empire seized control, the lunar calendarโthe calendar of women, it was replaced by a solar one. Twelve uneven months took the place of thirteen equal ones. The feminine pulse was erased from history, and the masculine order of numbers, logic, and domination took its unrighteous place. The new calendar served power, not harmony. It was the first silenced theft of divine balance.
With the conquerors of time, the Church also conquered the spirit. They feared what they couldnโt understandโthe feminine energy, dark yet nurturing, intuitive and powerful, became their greatest threat. What was once sacred was twisted into something sinful. The darkness that once symbolized rest, rebirth, and creation was turned into something to fear.
The moon, who was once our mirror and guide, was deemed lesser. And the women who bled with her, who healed with the earth, and who carried the wisdom of the tides in our veins, were declared witches, heathens, and demons. Why? Because power fears what it cannot control.
The Catholic Church; Pope Gregory XIII, in its hunger to centralize belief, rewrote the narrative of creation and the divine. And I say this, we shall beg to differ. The darkness was never evil. It was misunderstood. The same shadows they told us to hide in, are where our magic has always lived. Women are not meant to be tamed or controlled, they are meant to be acknowledged.
We shall never forget our history, and blame the same system that still stands today, echoing those same distortions. We should question every tradition that shames a woman for her body, her power, her rage, and her sacred darkness. We should ask why we were taught to fear the night, when the stars themselves were born from it.
Because the feminine energy is never weak. It is not evil. It is the moon that pulls the tides, the seed planted in darkness, the womb of a babeโof creation itself.
To reclaim that truth is not to vilify or rise against the church, it is to restore balance. The world shall never breathe on one lung, and humanity cannot heal while one half of its spirit is denied.
The darkness is not our enemy. It is our womb of rebirth. It is where souls remember, and where intuition whispers.
So to every woman reading this, those who are bleeding, loving, breaking, and risingโremember that your body follows the same rhythm as the stars. You are the calendar. You are time itself.
And to those who call this blasphemy, look at the moon tonight. Mayari still glows, unbothered by the centuries of lies. Because truth, like women, may be silenced, but never shall be destroyed.
