OPINION: The awakening — Filipino people demands and deserves good governance! | Kizzylee Buenavista, journo.

Flood control projects in the Philippines have become a very serious concern as the country faces increasing challenges from climate change and natural disasters. These projects aim to ease the impact of flooding, which has devastating effects on communities, infrastructure, and the economy.

Awerness has grown among Filipinos regarding the importance of these initiatives. Many citizens are waking up to the reality that flood control is not just a government responsibility, it requires community involvement and awareness. The lack of effective flood management has led to disastrous events, prompting discussions about transparency and accountability in the implementation of these projects.

One significant aspect of flood control projects is the need for proper planning and ex*****on. There have been instances where funds allocated for such projects were mismanaged or where projects were poorly designed, leading to ineffective results. This has fueled public demand for more transparency in how these projects are funded and how it is being executed. Filipinos are increasingly calling for regular updates and reports on the progress of flood control initiatives, ensuring that the government is held accountable.

The Philippines is not truly poor, because it is just shrouded in darkness where there is greed for power that only prioritizes personal desires and pleasure. Now, Filipinos are gradually waking up, because the rain has shown us that something must change in our beloved country, the Philippines.

In conclusion, the awakening of the Filipino people regarding flood control projects signifies a greater community involvement. As the country continues to face the challenges posed by flooding, it is essential for both the government and citizens to work together to create effective and sustainable solutions. Transparency in project implementation and active community participation will be key in building resilience against flooding in the Philippines.

If only there were no greed for power and all citizens were equal, there would be no triangle where they were always at the top, the Philippines would be nice and fertile where its natural resources were not just wasted by the wrong people.

EDITORIAL: Eyes Opened; Truth Will Never Shaken | Asher Santiago, journo.

Through countless news and broadcasts repeating and reporting the same issue, our eyes have finally been opened to the anomalies and theft of public funds for the advancement of our country. It's only right we use our voices to call out this unfairness and anomalies of those contractors and politicians involved.

Just like the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) confirmed 85 "ghost projects" in Bulacan that lead to millions worth of property destroyed by the flood, and many Filipinos' lives taken caused by leptospirosis not just in Bulacan, but the whole country.

This leads into people protesting in different parts of the Philippines like in El Mercado de Calumpit in Calumpit Bulacan, Bulacan State University, University of the Philippines, and many more places. Our eyes have been opened, and this truth will not be shaken by anyone.

Corruption has always been there, but this is the only time it's been exposed and seen clearly by the public eye. It's the time we need to be unblinded by the countless promises of improvement, it's the time we need to use our voice to call out and expose their anomalies. They have no right to silence us, and truth will always win even if we are in a world full of lies.

Massive Rally at Luneta Demands Action Against Corruption | Kalista Quintana, journo.

Manila, September 21, 2025 — Thousands of Filipinos gathered at Luneta Park on Sunday for the protest action “Baha sa Luneta: Aksyon Na Laban sa Korapsyon!”, a nationwide call to hold officials and contractors accountable for alleged misuse of public funds.

The event, directed by veteran filmmaker Joel Lamangan, featured a program of speeches and performances led by artists, students, and civic leaders. Organizers described the rally as both a cultural showcase and a political statement, symbolizing the people’s anger at long-standing corruption in government.

Demonstrators carried banners and placards, many expressing frustration over taxes being stolen instead of serving the public. The protest was marked by chants for transparency, stronger safeguards against graft, and justice for officials implicated in anomalies.

Church leaders and various civil society groups also lent their support, calling on Filipinos to unite beyond political affiliations. Meanwhile, authorities, including the MMDA, issued advisories to maintain order and security as large crowds converged in the capital.

The Luneta rally adds to the growing wave of demonstrations nationwide, signaling what observers say is renewed public momentum against corruption and misuse of taxpayer money.

During her concert, the 37-year-old Sarah Geronimo paused in the middle of her set, her voice carrying not only melody but also conviction. The crowd, expecting another heartfelt ballad, instead heard her speak with sincerity about the situation in the Philippines.

“It is no secret to us now,” she began, her tone serious, “that there are so many lies and deceptions happening in our country. I believe that the youth are still the hope of the nation. One day, you will be the ones to change the rotten system that the Philippines has.”

The arena fell quiet for a moment, her words hanging in the air. Many in the audience nodded, some even clapped in agreement before the ovation spread throughout the venue. Fans raised their banners and phones high, recording the moment, while others shouted messages of support.

Sarah’s eyes glistened as she looked at the thousands before her, her usual bright stage presence now mixed with visible dismay and frustration at the political climate. Yet despite her disappointment, her message carried hope, her belief in the younger generation to stand up, to rise, and to make the changes that leaders had long failed to deliver.

As the applause grew louder, she smiled and transitioned into her next song, her voice now charged not only with artistry but with the weight of truth and the fire of conviction.

The last time Sarah Geronimo was honored as a top taxpayer was in 2022, when she paid ₱21.5 million in income tax. From 2009 to 2015, she had already paid a total of ₱95.9 million. (2016–2021 No publicly available data on her income tax payments during these years.)
