Bushido and Emotions
Bushido does not teach a warrior to suppress emotions—it teaches him to master them.
A samurai felt fear, grief, anger, and love just like anyone else. The difference?, he did not allow those emotions to control his actions. Courage was acting despite fear.
Compassion was remaining kind despite suffering. Honor was doing what was right despite anger or pain.
A warrior's strength was not measured by the absence of emotion, but by the discipline to carry it with dignity.
"If a warrior's strength lies not in the absence of emotion but in the mastery of it, then are we mastering our emotions—or are our emotions mastering us?"
