PNHS Launches Comprehensive Opening Block Program to Prepare Learners for New Academic Year
PARANG, Cantilan, Surigao del Sur — Setting the tone for a productive, safe, and learner-centered school year, Parang National High School (PNHS) officially opened School Year 2026–2027 through a comprehensive Opening Block Program that equipped students, parents, teachers, and stakeholders with essential knowledge, skills, and support systems for a successful academic journey from June 8 to 11.
The opening activities commenced with a Grand Opening Program featuring a flag-raising ceremony, introduction of faculty and staff, and messages from school stakeholders. The event marked the beginning of a structured transition into the new academic year, emphasizing orientation, safety, health, and community engagement.
Following the opening ceremony, students participated in classroom-based activities, including getting-to-know-you sessions, orientation on school rules and policies, anti-bullying and child protection measures, grading systems, awards and recognition guidelines, emergency learning policies, and the newly implemented three-term school calendar. Classroom and club officer elections were also conducted.
As part of the school’s commitment to student well-being, mandatory health and nutrition assessments were conducted, including height and weight measurements, BMI evaluation, and initial vision and hearing screenings. Simultaneously, PNHS reading and Math assessment facilitators conducted the Beginning of School Year (BOSY) Literacy and Numeracy Screening to learners through the Philippine Informal Reading Inventory (Phil-IRI) and Rapid Mathematics Assessment (RMA) across key stages.
To further prepare students for academic success, the school continued literacy and numeracy assessments while providing Senior High School students with track and strand orientation sessions to help them make informed decisions regarding their specialized academic pathways.
Recognizing the vital role of parents in education, PNHS also conducted Homeroom Parents-Teachers Association (HRPTA) meetings to discuss the Department of Education’s newly adopted three-term school calendar, grading and assessment policies, emergency learning protocols, anti-bullying measures, child protection policies, and the prohibition of cellphone use during instructional time. Elections of HRPTA and School Parents-Teachers Association (SPTA) officers were likewise held.
The four-day program culminated with the Students’ Acquaintance and Induction Program, followed by the SPTA Assembly, Induction, and Turnover Ceremony. These activities strengthened camaraderie among learners and reinforced the partnership between parents and the school in supporting student development.
Through the Opening Block Program, Parang National High School reaffirmed its dedication to delivering quality education by ensuring that learners, teachers, parents, and stakeholders begin the new school year informed, prepared, and united in pursuing academic excellence.
