EDITORIAL: “COUP ATTEMPT”

The revelation by Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano of an alleged plot to unseat or stage a “coup attempt” against the Senate leadership shows that our politics remains driven by personal alliances rather than principle.

According to Cayetano, there have been offers and threats made to shift the Senate majority — a clear sign that some are more focused on holding power than serving the public.

If senators spend their time counting votes and plotting against each other instead of crafting laws, vital projects for the economy and national security will only be delayed.

The role of the minority is to serve as fiscalizers and watchdogs—not to disrupt and destroy just to seize positions. Still, this move could also be a strategy to strengthen the current leadership.

A reminder: In politics, there are no permanent friends—only permanent interests. The public must remain vigilant and never let personal ambition take priority over the nation’s welfare.

True leadership is not gained through threats, but through trust and genuine public service.

Ultimately, this power play seems to serve one clear goal: to push forward the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.

NEWLYWEDS GET ‘DOUBLE BLESSING’: WEDDING + NEW HOME IN ONE DAY IN BOHOL

SIERRA BULLONES, BOHOL – What was already a special wedding day became even more unforgettable for one couple, as they also received a brand‑new home on the same occasion — a unique milestone under the province’s Balay sa Paglaum program.

Joseph and Cerilin Noculan from Barangay San Isidro officially tied the knot and were named the 118th beneficiaries of the housing project during a joint ceremony led by local officials.

Governor Erico Aris Aumentado , together with Congresswoman Van‑van Aumentado, personally turned over the house as part of their shared advocacy.

“Congratulations! Today brings you double grace — you get to start your marriage and your new life under your own roof as our 118th beneficiaries,” Governor Aumentado said.

The home was built through the partnership with the Bohol Police Provincial Office’s “Libreng Alagad ug Balay” initiative, using personal funds of the Governor and Congresswoman with help from volunteer workers.

Mayor Michael Doria solemnized the wedding, with barangay officials and sponsors witnessing both the vows and the home turnover.

The Governor also offered a heartfelt reminder to the couple: “Marriage will not always be easy, but always choose each other every day — that is how your family will thrive and last in this new home.”

OMBUDSMAN SUBPOENA NOT ACCEPTED AT THE SENATE

Ombudsman Boying Remulla stated today, Saturday, May 16, during the program “Executive Session,” that the Senate refused to accept the subpoena his office had issued, even though a formal notice had already been sent.

Recall that yesterday, May 15, Remulla announced they had issued a subpoena to obtain CCTV footage and other records from the Senate as part of the investigation into the recent shooting incident.

“Our process server encountered a problem—the Senate would not accept the subpoena, even though there was already a notice.

Senator Allan Cayetano even said Director Matibag of the NBI should also be charged. This means they know about the suspension order, yet they still refuse to accept it. As far as I’m concerned, this is already considered served even if it was not received,” Remulla said.

📌Ang hustisya dili mahimong "one-way street."

Bato dela Rosa sings PMA hymn to appeal for support from fellow graduates

MANILA – On his third day at the Senate building on Wednesday, May 13, Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa sang the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) hymn.

Dela Rosa, a member of the PMA Sinagtala Class of 1986, performed the lyrics: “When bells for us are rung. And our last taps is sung.... Thy virtues to display. Academy oh hail to thee.”

He shared that the act is a call for peaceful support from his fellow PMA graduates, known as “mistahs,” amid the reported arrest warrant issued against him by the International Criminal Court.
