๐๐ข๐ข๐: CNAHS Level II nursing students undergo IPC training and orientation
Level II nursing students from the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences participated in an Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) training and orientation conducted in partnership with staff from Eastern Visayas Medical Center on May 26-27, 2026, at the Centennial Hall of the University of Eastern Philippines in Catarman, Northern Samar.
The activity involved Batch Moissanite and was facilitated by EVMC personnel Julie S. Yago, RN, MM, IDN; Cherryl Rose Ann P. Martinez, RN, IDN; and Catherine A. Cadavis, RN, IDN. The training aimed to strengthen studentsโ knowledge and skills in infection prevention, patient safety, and hospital protocols in preparation for their clinical exposure and future hospital affiliation.
To accommodate all participants, the students were divided into two batches. Sections A, B, and C attended the training on May 26, while Sections D, E, and F were scheduled on May 27. Selected Level II nursing students also assisted in facilitating the flow of the program.
The program begins with a prayer followed by the singing of the National Anthem. During the first batch, Batch President Maria Bulawan delivers the opening address, while Batch Vice President Sheena Ybaรฑez is assigned to give the opening remarks for the second batch.
The morning session focused on Standard Precautions and Hand Hygiene, emphasizing the importance of preventing the spread of infections in healthcare settings. Students were also guided on the proper handwashing and hand sanitizing techniques to minimize contamination and promote patient safety.
Discussions on Environmental Sanitation highlighted proper waste management, recycling practices, and the importance of maintaining cleanliness inside hospital facilities to ensure a safer healthcare environment.
In the afternoon session engaged in discussions and return demonstrations on proper donning and doffing of Level 4 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Additional topics, including Surveillance, Safety of Healthcare Workers (HCWs), and Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) and the Role of Nurses, are also discussed to further preparing the students for clinical exposure and hospital affiliation.
The activity concluded with the awarding of certificates and tokens to the guest speakers, followed by closing remarks from CNAHS Dean Dr. Sarah B. Delorino. A photo opportunity session with the EVMC staff, clinical instructors, and participating students officially mark the end of the training. #
