Level II nursing students from the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences participated in an Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) training and orientation conducted in partnership with staff from Eastern Visayas Medical Center on May 26-27, 2026, at the Centennial Hall of the University of Eastern Philippines in Catarman, Northern Samar.

The activity involved Batch Moissanite and was facilitated by EVMC personnel Julie S. Yago, RN, MM, IDN; Cherryl Rose Ann P. Martinez, RN, IDN; and Catherine A. Cadavis, RN, IDN. The training aimed to strengthen studentsโ€™ knowledge and skills in infection prevention, patient safety, and hospital protocols in preparation for their clinical exposure and future hospital affiliation.

To accommodate all participants, the students were divided into two batches. Sections A, B, and C attended the training on May 26, while Sections D, E, and F were scheduled on May 27. Selected Level II nursing students also assisted in facilitating the flow of the program.

The program begins with a prayer followed by the singing of the National Anthem. During the first batch, Batch President Maria Bulawan delivers the opening address, while Batch Vice President Sheena Ybaรฑez is assigned to give the opening remarks for the second batch.

The morning session focused on Standard Precautions and Hand Hygiene, emphasizing the importance of preventing the spread of infections in healthcare settings. Students were also guided on the proper handwashing and hand sanitizing techniques to minimize contamination and promote patient safety.

Discussions on Environmental Sanitation highlighted proper waste management, recycling practices, and the importance of maintaining cleanliness inside hospital facilities to ensure a safer healthcare environment.

Additional topics, including Surveillance, Safety of Healthcare Workers (HCWs), and Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) and the Role of Nurses, are also discussed to further preparing the students for clinical exposure and hospital affiliation.

Sa ilalim ng Allied Health Experiential Assistance for Deserving Students (AHEAD) Grant, makatatanggap ang mga mapipiling aplikante ng one-time subsidy na nagkakahalaga ng โ‚ฑ25,000.

๐—œ๐—–๐—ฌ๐— ๐—œ: Three UEP Radtech students qualify for UP-PGH Internship

โ€ŽThe Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology (BSRT) students of the University of Eastern Philippines (UEP) once again proved their dedication and excellence after three students successfully passed the entrance examination for junior clinical internship placement at the University of the Philippinesโ€“Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH), one of the countryโ€™s leading government hospitals.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽThe results, released on May 4, 2026, brought pride and excitement to the UEP Radtech community. The qualified third-year students from Batch Aurum are Arquin John Bautista, Fil Christian Delorino, and Ashley Jade Getalado.

They took the entrance examination on April 18, as part of the screening process for the hospitalโ€™s internship program.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽThe students were guided by Prof. Dermalyn Daaco-Malobago, Internship Coordinator, throughout their preparation and were assisted in matters related to their clinical placement.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽDuring their preparation for the examination, the students shared their personal goals and experiences in pursuing the opportunity to represent UEP with pride and excellence.
โ€Ž
โ€Žโ€œHonestly, when Maโ€™am Camille asked me if I was willing to take the entrance exam, I immediately said yes. I was happy and somehow shocked because I was included among those who would take it. Even though it was costly and I wasnโ€™t sure if I would pass, I still took the chance because it has always been my dream. I didnโ€™t want to miss the opportunity and regret not trying,โ€ Bautista shared.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽGetalado said that since the first batch of interns from UEP was accepted to PGH, becoming one of them had already become her goal.
โ€Ž
โ€Žโ€œI was also very vocal about it to my professors. So when I was selected to take the entrance exam, I felt more relieved than surprised because I felt that my efforts had finally been noticed,โ€ she added.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽDelorino shared that balancing academic responsibilities while preparing for the examination became one of the challenges they faced.
โ€Ž
โ€Žโ€œThe primary goal was to pass the exam and become an intern at PGH. I didnโ€™t have enough time to review because days and weeks prior to the examination, we were busy with school-related work and activities,โ€ he said.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽThe internship is expected to begin next month, June 22, where the selected students will gain hands-on clinical experience, enhance their technical skills, and strengthen their professionalism in the field of radiologic technology. #
