The Eye of the Storm
By: Ivan Kurt C. Fajardo (Grade 7-SPM Student)

The typhoon's fury, a sight to behold
People flee, their homes to unfold
The winds scream loud, the rain pours down
A deluge of fear, a town drowned

The thunder roars, the lightning shines
The typhoon's power, a force divine
The winds howl loud, the rain falls deep
A stormy night, a time to sleep

But still they stand, through the raging storm
A family's bond, a love that's warm
They hold on tight, through the wind and rain
A beacon of hope, in the typhoon's pain

The typhoon's tale, a story told
Of strength and love, in the face of gold
The people's hearts, a testament to might
A community strong, in the typhoon's light.

Typhoon Emong... a THREAD OF EXPERIENCES...

"Typhoon Emong, kay lupit mo!"
These words were boldly etched on a student's paper after experiencing Typhoon Emong two weeks ago.

"Hindi kami prepared. Akala namin isang bagyong katulad din ng iba. Dadaan lang nang di ko dama."
The unexpected blow shocked everyone. It was initially unnoticed, and many were unprepared. But the worst of the worst struck in the dead of night, when everyone was sound asleep.

"Biglang bumuwak ang kisame, tubig ay dumausdos pababa. Umiyak ang aking kapatid. Ako rin ay napaiyak na rin dahil hindi lamang mga gamit namin ang nabasa, pati ang mga requirements at activities na pinaghirapan kong tapusin."
The disappointment of a parent watching everything in the house soaked by the pouring rain was beyond words—just like the pain felt by students as they saw their books, notebooks, modules, and outputs drenched.

Now, IT'S YOUR TURN! You can comment below about your experiences during the typhoon. You can also share your key takeaways and your realizations. 😇

"Bayanihan para sa Batang Fernando at Fernanda"

In a show of unity, teachers, learners, parents, and other school stakeholders joined forces for the clean-up drive in the school. It took them a week to recover the place, to clear the areas, and to make the classrooms ready for the return of the students.

Math dept reels from Typhoon Emong’s impact

The Mathematics Department (LUNHS) suffered from the onslaught of Typhoon Emong, which received severe damage as seen in the photos below.

The recent storm caused extensive damage to the department, leaving both interior and outdoor spaces in a state of chaos. Learning materials were strewn and drenched, desks were overturned, and classrooms were inundated. There were major safety risks outside as big trees were uprooted, electrical lines were overturned, and debris was all over the place. There was also obvious damage to the garden and the buildings around it, as high gusts and fallen branches destroyed the area.

We vs. Storm
By: Glynicka Joyce Garcia (Grade 10-SPM Student)

On July 25, 2025, Typhoon Emong hit La Union. Around 1:40 in the morning, the wind got very strong, and the rain started pouring hard. Then the power went out. For the first time, water came into our house. We tried to save our things, but the water kept rising. It was a scary and tiring night for all of us.

Our sari-sari store, one of our primary sources of income, was also severely damaged. The strong wind blew off the roof, and many of our goods got wet and ruined. We don’t know how to fix it or where to start again. It’s very hard to recover. But we are trying our best to stay strong.

Before the storm, our teachers gave us modules because classes were suspended. However, when the typhoon arrived, some of the modules became soaked. After the storm, we had no electricity, no internet, and no signal. We wanted to study, but it was almost impossible.

Even though many things were destroyed, we still choose to stand up and move forward. We believe God is always with us. This storm may slow us down, but it won’t stop us from learning. Students like me will keep going no matter what.

We are slowly trying to move on from what happened. We help each other, clean up, and do our best every day. It’s not easy, but we believe we can recover. As long as we have faith, support from our families, and hope in our hearts, we know we can get through any storm. At the end of the day, we will win over any storm.
