One of my students had a rough day yesterday. He got into trouble, and I had to call home to inform his mom that he had done some silly things that resulted in his classmates getting hurt.

Early this morning, he handed me a paper telling me that his mom had let him write these sentences several times last night.

This reminded me of what my teacher always made me do during my elementary days whenever I misbehaved in class.

If only all parents handled teachers’ concerns with their children this way, I believe there would be fewer disruptions and behavior issues in the classroom. Nowadays, kids need tough but loving discipline.

Today was surreal. I never imagined receiving this kind of award. Coming to the U.S. with teaching experience to back me up still wasn’t easy—it challenged me in ways I never expected. My first year was especially hard, and there were days I questioned if I truly belonged. But I kept showing up, even when it felt like a battle. Teaching here is not a walk in the park—it takes patience, hard work, and faith in our students and ourselves.

Even now, I’m still learning and doing my best every day. I can now say I grew a lot in my profession through the support of the admin and all the staff.

Thank you to Dr. Crystal Henderson for believing in me and reminding me that I can do it. To Ms. Laura Erickson for the simple hallway hellos that meant so much on rough days. To my kindergarten team Naneng Nikay Ann and Ate Myles Vil Arcilla for the teamwork and encouragement. To Ms. Vonda Golden for being an amazing mentor. To my other fellow international Filipino teachers - Jake Bernardino, Carlyn Pantollano, Mariane Cidro, Riley Bulling and all the staff in our building—thank you for believing in me.

And to my family, friends back home, and of course to God, for giving me the strength to carry out this noblest profession. To God be all the Glory🙏

Agyaman nak!
Maraming salamat!
Thank you!
