First, let us recall what is Mental Health?
It refers to an overall psychological well-being, and includes the way you feel about yourself, the quality of your relationships, and your ability to manage your feelings and deal with difficulties.
Here are ten tips to take care of your mental health:
1. Talk to someone you trust - talk to a friendly face. If you have concerns, stresses or worries, sharing these with someone who cares about you is one of the best ways to calm your nervous system and relieve stress.
2. Look after your physical health - taking care of your physical health helps improve your mental health and well-being. Be active for at least 30 minutes daily exercise — running, walking, yoga, dancing, cycling, or even gardening. Eat a balanced and healthy diet. Make sure to get enough sleep.
3. Do activities that you enjoy - try to continue doing the activities that you find meaningful and enjoyable, such as cooking for yourself or your loved ones, playing with your pet, walking in the park, reading a book, or watching a film or TV series.
4. Take two minutes to focus on the world around you - mindfulness, meditation, and deep breathing can help to reduce overall level of stress.
5. Steer away from harmful substances - do not use harmful substances such as drugs, alcohol, and to***co to cope with what you are feeling.
6. Don’t skimp on sleep - it matters more than you think. Sleep is our body and mind. It is the best way to recharge and rejuvenate our body and minds.
7. Eat healthy, regular meals, and stay hydrated - a balanced diet and plenty of water can help to improve your energy levels and focus throughout the day. Also, limit caffeinated beverages such as coffee and soft drinks.
8. Focus on positivity - identify and challenge your negative and unhelpful thoughts.
9. Stay active - staying active is good for the brain as it is for the body with having a regular exercise routine or actively can have a major impact on your mental and emotional health, relieve stress, improve memory, and help you to sleep better.
10. Seek professional help - reach out to a professional practitioner who can help you to provide emotional support, and practical help. Remember, you are not alone.
