Why do babies sometimes get darker after birth?
Right after birth, babies usually look lighter or even reddish-pink in color. Pero after a few days or weeks, their skin can become darker or browner, especially for babies with Filipino, Asian, African, or Latin roots — and this is totally normal.
⸻
🧬 Reasons Why Baby’s Skin Color Changes:
1. Melanin Activation
• Melanin is the pigment that gives skin its color.
• Babies don’t have full melanin right away — their bodies produce more of it after birth, so the skin darkens gradually.
2. Exposure to Air & Sunlight
• After staying in the womb (na madilim), baby’s skin reacts to the outside world.
• More sun = more melanin.
3. Natural Skin Tone Coming Out
• Yung final skin tone niya usually shows up within the first 6 months.
⸻
✅ Important Notes:
• It’s not a sign of illness.
• Totally normal for skin tone to change in the early months.
• Final color might be a mix of both parents’ tones — sometimes even from grandparents!

🌈 Mom Reminder:
Whether baby turns fair, brown, or morena — they are beautiful and healthy just as they are. 🤍✨
