𝐀 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐲 🫶

At first, I wasn’t sure if I was in the right position to do this because I didn’t personally know Rene. But as the days passed and I saw tributes across my feed, something shifted. One night before I slept, scrolling through posts about him brought me to tears.

I’ve known many young players with big dreams, players whose journeys remind me of his, and it was that familiar reality that struck me deeply. A young dreamer striving for something greater for his family, his story moved me in a way I didn’t expect. Through time and reflection, I realized this is not about how well I knew him, but about acknowledging the impact he left behind.

As someone who shares a deep passion for the sport and for telling players’ stories, I felt it was only right to express my respect and admiration for him.

Today, I choose to honor that feeling. Through my platform, Baka Idol Ko ’Yan, which highlights players within our community, I dedicate this special Legacy Tribute poster to Rene Clert N. Baterbonia.

With heartfelt sympathy, I honor the life and legacy of Rene Clert N. Baterbonia and extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends, teammates, and all who mourn his passing.

𝐁𝐚𝐤𝐚 𝐈𝐃𝐎𝐋 𝐊𝐨 '𝐘𝐚𝐧! 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 ⛹🏀
Idol of the Week is 𝐑𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐪𝐮𝐞 🫡

Richard is not new to me—he is one of the familiar faces I’ve consistently seen across the leagues we’ve been covering since 2023. I first came across him during the 2023 SK Alapan 1-B Basketball League, where he suited up in the juniors division for Team Westwood, his hometown squad. From 2023 up to the 2025 seasons, he remained loyal to the same teram, steadily developing his game while representing Team Westwood with consistency and commitment.

In the 2026 season, as I expanded my coverage across multiple community leagues, I once again encountered Richard—this time showcasing his game in different stages of the local basketball scene. He is also familiar within the Lakerfield basketball community, having played in the FTL December Basketball League 2025 in the seniors division under Team Bespren. Now, in the ongoing 2026 season of the Lakerfield Basketball League, he suits up for Team FTL in the seniors division.

A natural shooting guard, Richard brings a scoring presence that is both steady and increasingly confident. His game is highlighted by his perimeter shooting, where he has the ability to knock down threes in rhythm and build momentum shot after shot. With every release, his confidence visibly grows, making him a reliable scoring option for his team. Beyond his offensive contribution, what stands out most is his attitude and focus. He plays with composure, and at times, you can still see the joy in his game—something that remains just as important as competing and winning. Having followed his journey across multiple seasons, it’s clear this is not a late discovery but rather a continued observation of a player growing within the same competitive circles.

Including Richard in this season’s roster of Idols is both a recognition of his consistency and an opportunity to further witness what he can bring in the seasons ahead. I’m looking forward to seeing how he continues to develop, especially as he helps carry the banner of Team Westwood and contributes to a community built on players who share the same passion and fire for the game.
