A magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck earlier today at around 12:48 AM, according to initial earthquake monitoring data, with affected areas including parts of the Philippines and Indonesia.

Preliminary data showed the quake occurring approximately 252 kilometers from Bohol, making it potentially felt in some areas of the Visayas, including parts of Cebu.

A tragic incident shocked residents of Naga City, Cebu after two 7-year-old boys who had been missing for three days were found dead inside a parked vehicle on Wednesday afternoon, May 20.

According to reports, the two children, who were close friends and both residents of Sitio Tapon in Barangay Tuyan, were last seen on Sunday before they were reported missing by their families.

Authorities from the Naga City Police Station reviewed CCTV footage during the search operation and reportedly traced the children’s last known movements toward a parked vehicle located in Purok Yoso, Sitio Bantayan, Barangay Tuyan.

The bodies of the children were later discovered inside the vehicle.

The heartbreaking incident has left residents grieving and raising questions about how the tragedy happened. Following the discovery, the children were immediately laid to rest at the Naalad Public Cemetery in Naga City.

Police authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident to determine what exactly led to the deaths of the two children.

Air quality concerns have resurfaced in parts of Metro Cebu after monitoring data this morning, May 16, 2026, showed another spike in fine particulate pollution.
