From October 25 to 30, 2025, our school held its online examination week โ€” a test not only of knowledge, but also of resilience. What was meant to be a regular assessment period turned into an extraordinary experience when an unexpected 6.9-magnitude struck Northern Cebu. In the wake of this natural disaster, the safety and well-being of everyone became the top priority. To ensure continuity of learning, the school swiftly transitioned to an online format. This decision came with challenges, but it also revealed the determination and adaptability of both students and teachers.

The sudden shift to online examinations was far from easy. Many students struggled with unstable internet connections, power interruptions, and emotional stress in the earthquakeโ€™s aftermath. Teachers, too, had to make rapid adjustments in preparing and administering virtual exams. Despite these obstacles, everyone worked hand in hand to make the week a success. Students demonstrated responsibility by submitting their exams on time, while teachers offered constant support and understanding. This collective effort proved that learning can continue even in the most unpredictable circumstancesโ€”when there is teamwork, patience, and dedication.

The online examination week was more than a measure of academic ability; it was a testament to the strength and unity of our school community. The 6.9 magnitude quake may have shaken our surroundings, but it could not shake our spirit to learn. Instead, it inspired us to rise above the challenge and discover new ways to grow. This experience reminds us that true success is not measured by perfect scores, but by the courage to keep going despite adversity.

โ€œThe ground may have shaken our world, but never our will to rise, learn, and move forward together.โ€

All Soulsโ€™ Day, observed every 2nd day of November, it is a special day to remember and pray for the souls of those who have passed away. A time to reminisce on the lives of our departed loved ones and to offer prayers for their eternal peace.

A meaningful day for everyone to visit cemeteries to light candles, offer flowers, and pray for their deceased loved ones. Some even bring food, share stories, and spend time together at the gravesites, turning the day into a heartfelt moment of remembrance and togetherness. A day to reflect on the meaning of life, death, and faithโ€”to pray for mercy, forgiveness, and eternal rest for all souls.

Today is not only a time to mourn but also a time to celebrate the memory of loved ones and to express hope in eternal life. A day to be filled with reflection, love, and remembrance that continues to unite families across generations.

The sound of rain was the only thing that filled the silence after our loud screams. It drummed continuously against the muddy ground, drowning out everything except the pounding in our chests. It was so horrible that none of us could speak. Our breaths came out in ragged gasps, mixing with the mist that curled through the night air.
Nathalieโ€™s lifeless face stared back at us from beneath the wet soil. Her eyes were half-open, staring blankly, reflecting the faint glimmer of the flashlight that flickered weakly in my shaking hand. She was pale, cold, and impossibly stillโ€”so still it felt wrong, as if the world itself was holding its breath. Yet, I could still hear her. Her voice echoed in the back of my mind, soft and playful, the way she used to say it: โ€œItโ€™s going to be fun.โ€ Then I realized that she had been in my dreams before.

Mariel dropped the shovel with a dull thump, the sound swallowed by the rain. She stumbled backward, her shoes sinking into the mud. โ€œThis isnโ€™t real,โ€ she said nervously, her voice cracking between sobs. โ€œWe just saw herโ€”we just saw her right there behind us! She was right there! She might be hiding in the trees. This co**se must be an illusion of her.โ€

Jake started to panic. โ€œWe need to vanish now. Cover the co**se again. Letโ€™s find a way to get out of this scary place.โ€

We witnessed it all. The truth lay before us. Nathalie was dead and had been for a long time. Her clothes were tattered, faded with time, and her hair clung to the damp soil like roots desperate to hold on. Then suddenly, a smell like rotting earth mixed with something metallic filled the air. I gasped and backed away, clutching my chest. That was when I noticed something carved into the wooden cross above the grave. I wiped away the mud, and beneath it, faint letters appeared:
โ€œForgive me, Father.โ€

A sudden gust of wind caught our attention, howling through the trees, snuffing out our flashlights one by one. Darkness swallowed us whole. And then, faintly, someone started humming. It was Nathalieโ€™s voice.

โ€œRun!โ€ I shouted, grabbing Marielโ€™s hand, but she froze, her eyes wide, staring past me. Slowly, I turned back.

It was Nathalie, standing a few feet away from us. I wasnโ€™t sure at first. It seemed to look like her. Her hair hung wet and tangled, and her dress was the same as the one on the co**se, but this one dripped with water, not muddy soil. Her eyes glowed faintly in the darkness, and when she smiled, her lips cracked open like dry clay.

โ€œYou guys really came,โ€ she said softly, tilting her head. โ€œNow you can see.โ€
Before we could move, the ground beneath the grave began to tremble. The flowers faded in color and started to decay. The cross cracked, and a low moan escaped the earth. It was a hand. Another hand pushed its way out from beneath Nathalieโ€™s co**se. We all screamed and trembled in fear. The rain fell harder, drowning our cries. I desperately tried to pull Mariel away, but she was frozen, staring at the emerging figure of a man. The manโ€™s face twisted with pain and madness. The smell of decay filled the air as he rose, clutching something in his handโ€”a silver locket. It turned out to be Nathalieโ€™s locket because her name was engraved on it.
Suddenly, Nathalie turned to him. โ€œYou promised me,โ€ she whispered, her tone trembling between sorrow and hatred. โ€œYou said you wouldnโ€™t leave me here.โ€

The manโ€™s jaw fell open, his voice rasping through the storm and wind, โ€œYou were never supposed to come back.โ€ And then everything went black.

When I woke up, I was in my bed. The morning light poured through the window. My clothes were dryโ€”no mud, no scratches. No Mariel, no Jake. No spooky mountains. Only the image of a black kokok bird perched outside my window. It was calm and silent, and then it began to fly away.

I tried to convince myself it was all a dreamโ€”until I saw the dirt beneath my fingernails. I dismissed it and started to clean my bed. But then, a horrible sight caught my attention.

There, on my bedside table, lay Nathalieโ€™s silver locket.

โ€ŽAll Saintsโ€™ Day is a Christian celebration held every year on the 1st of November. It is a time to honor and remember all the saintsโ€”both known and unknownโ€”who have lived holy and faithful lives. The day to recognize those who dedicated their lives to serving God and others.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽFamilies visit cemeteries to clean and decorate the graves of their loved ones: offer flowers, candles, and prayers as signs of respect and remembrance. A somber day yet filled with love and affection, as families gather to remember those who have passed away.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽIt also reminds Christians to follow the examples of the saints by living lives of faith, kindness, and humility. It teaches the importance of spiritual reflection and encourages people to strengthen their connection with God.
โ€Ž
โ€ŽIn essence, All Saintsโ€™ Day is not only a religious celebration of the saints in heaven but also a moment for the living to show love, respect, and remembrance for those who came before them. It is a day of faith, remembrance, and togetherness that continues to hold deep meaning across generations.

Undas: Where Love Lives Beyond the Grave ( Special Non-Working Holiday)

October 31st โ€” For countless Filipinos, this day marks the great exodus. Youโ€™ll see it in the packed ports and bus terminals, people traveling back to their hometowns and provinces with a single purpose: to honor their lineage.

This day signifies the start of a sacred, annual pilgrimage, a powerful reminder that our connection to those we've lost never truly breaks. Families arrive at cemeteries armed with brushes, paint, water, and cleaning supplies. This tradition isn't just maintenance; itโ€™s a visible, tangible gesture of respect and enduring affection. Itโ€™s how we prepare the stage for the solemn yet joyful reunion of All Saintsโ€™ Day (November 1) and All Soulsโ€™ Day (November 2).

In the shadows cloak,
Where doubts preside,
Its darkness cling,
A prison--an abyss is formed.

Inside this makeshift tent,
Loneliness echoed its deafening cry,
Hear them, listen to it, feel it's terror.

The trust issues of "doubt".
An "aftershock's" trauma.
Tremors of "pressure".
A broken "internet".
The burden of a "student".
The weight of the "midterms".

The never ending whispers,
That black rains.
Leaving anxiousness inside our hearts.

But wait,
Heavens mercy--no its determination.
There she is knocking,
Burning so brightly amidst the night.
She will be the sun for us.
She, who'll burn a million times,
Just to keep us.

She is the way.
With her, those whispers hide beneath her fire.
Afraid to burn and diminish in the light.
She leads us to our paths.
She shows us the way to our dreams.
Signifying that even at our darkest moments,
We should never succumb to darkness.
Instead we should continue our paths and claim our rightful dreams that await our own future.

As October comes to an end, a different kind of chill embraces the campus as the long-awaited midterm examinations are fast approaching. From October 25 to 31, students from every department brace themselves for a week that will test their knowledge, skills, and perseverance.

Despite the recent earthquake, CTU-Tabogon Extension once again demonstrates its adaptability and resilience as the midterm examinations proceed through online platforms, where students log in to take their tests from the comfort and safety of their homes.

Faculty members play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth conduct of the exams. They prepare online questionnaires and monitoring systems to uphold fairness and integrity among students.

Despite the challenges and pressures, students embrace these exams as a milestone marking the culmination of their learning at the semesterโ€™s midpoint.

As the midterm week draws to a close, students look forward to brighter days ahead, ready to take on new lessons and challenges. This week-long examination period not only tests studentsโ€™ academic strength but also embodies the true legacy of CTU-Tabogon Extension: a commitment to quality education.

Life can often feel suffocating, as if forces are constantly pulling you down and the promised light at the end of the tunnel is nothing more than a faint shimmer. In this fast-paced, demanding world, always remember to breathe.
โ€Ž
What others see as a simple puddle may feel like the depth of an ocean to you. Your feelings are valid; you are not a burden.

As clichรฉ as it may sound, it will get better. Amidst all the overwhelming advice on how to hold on, there is one reminder that is often overlookedโ€ฆ.
