LOOK: PAGASA SEES UP TO 19 TROPICAL CYCLONES HITTING PHILIPPINES IN SECOND HALF OF 2025
The Philippines could face 11 to 19 tropical cyclones from July to December 2025, according to PAGASA’s latest climate forum. Forecasters warn many storms during this period may make landfall and enhance the southwest monsoon or Habagat.
The monthly forecast projects 2-3 storms each in July and August, 2-4 in September and October, 2-3 in November, and 1-2 in December.
Climatologist Joey Figuracion explained that tropical cyclones forming from July to early October are more likely to hit land and intensify monsoon rains.
So far, only one cyclone—Tropical Depression Auring—formed this year, lasting just six hours in mid-June without affecting the country. This unusually late first cyclone hasn’t occurred since 2016.
Meanwhile, rainfall is expected to be near to above normal nationwide, especially from October to December. Northwestern Luzon, however, could see below-normal rains in July.
PAGASA said current ENSO-neutral conditions (neither El Niño nor La Niña) are expected to persist into early 2026, influencing typical rainy season patterns but still posing risks of floods and landslides.
