STARTING WITH A BANG! | NEW FACES, SAME SPIRIT AT THE DEPARTMENT ORIENTATION

On August 16, 2023, the Department of Economics held their Department Orientation.

Led by their new president Lawrence Kurz, the CarES officers ran the program smoothly.

After giving the welcoming orientation, Dr. Julius Relampagos, the new Chair of the department, gave a few pieces of advice to the students.

There were many laughs interspersed during the event as everyone participated in guessing games.

Kurz laid out CarES's big plans for this school year, including the Year End Party.

The event ended with group photos taken.

Three brilliant guests graced the stage and shared their knowledge of Cebu's economy.

Thank you Mrs. Ma. Theresa Sederiosa, Dr. Julius Relampagos, and Ms. Maria Teresa S. Alambra for encouraging the youth to take economics seriously, and perhaps inspiring them to become economists themselves.

Special thanks to Dr. Liberato A. Reyes for moderating the forum with his unique charm and comedic talent.

And finally, a big THANK YOU to Mr. Jan Lorenzo Alegado for supervising the event and the CarES officers and members for making the program run as smoothly as possible!

With mixed economic signals and adversity, the Philippines has been forced to weather quite a storm in the last few years. Is the Philippines still worth being called one of Asia's Rising Tigers?

Read this op-ed by Sergio Borromeo.
