THE University of the Visayas (UV) welcomed its newly elected Supreme Student Council (SSC) officers through an Administrative Oath-Taking Ceremony and Quality Leadership Meeting on September 7, 2026, at the Doรฑa Andrea Multimedia Center, Inday Teresing Building.
The event commenced with the Administrative Oath-Taking of the newly elected SSC officers, led by University President Dr. Conrado E. Iรฑigo Jr., formally marking the beginning of their responsibilities as student leaders.
Subsequently, the courtesy meeting opened with a reflection on Whitney Houston's "One Moment in Time," leading into Dr. Iรฑigoโs discussion on leadership and personal development.
Anchoring his message on Mark 10:44โ45, Dr. Iรฑigo emphasized servant leadership, highlighting that leadership is rooted in service rather than position or authority.
Drawing from his experiences, Dr. Iรฑigo defined leadership through the 3 Iโs: Initiating Useful Changes, Inspiring People, and Influencing People.
Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of proactive leadership, encouraging the student leaders to adopt the mindset of "I'll do it" rather than "I'll try it."
In addition, he urged them to take responsibility for their actions, remain committed to their work, and focus on improving their own responses rather than being consumed by changing others.
Moreover, he underscored the value of mastering the subconscious mind and introduced books that contributed to his leadership development, including Coveyโs The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
Concluding his message, Dr. Iรฑigo emphasized the connection between proactivity and excellence.
"To lead with excellence, you must have the proactive attitude," he said.
"Excellence is an attitude of mind and the quality of doing what is right and going beyond what is expected," he added.
The session reminded the newly elected SSC officers and student leaders that effective leadership extends beyond holding a positionโit requires initiative, service, responsibility, and the pursuit of excellence.
Present were Student Development Coordinator of Student Affairs and Services Center and SSC Adviser Ms. Imee P. Arriesgado, SSC officers, and student leaders from various participating colleges who contributed to the success of the event.
