BISAYA GANI!
Daghan na sa ato nga Bisaya ang nakabantay ani nga realidad: when it comes to mainstream platforms, events, and media, Tagalog talents are more recognized and given the spotlight. Their songs dominate the charts, radio, television, and even streaming playlists.
But we have to ask โunsa man gyud ang kalahianโ? Are Bisaya songs less heartfelt? Are Bisaya artists less talented? Of course not. Our stories, struggles, and hopes are just as powerful, and equally worthy to be heard.
The truth is, exposure, machinery, and support play a huge role. Labels, organizers, and audiences have consistently invested more in Tagalog music, which is why it naturally gained wider reach and recognition. Meanwhile, Bisaya artists often need to work twice as hard just to gain half the attention.
There is nothing wrong with writing in Tagalog, and nothing wrong with celebrating Tagalog artists, we honor their hardwork and success. Pero itโs about time to give real support for Bisaya songs and artists.
The Bisaya language is part of our culture, a living heritage nga nagpabilin hangtod karon. That is why it is only right to promote it, be proud of it, and pass it on to the next generations.
Kung Tagalog songs, dali ra kaayo ma-accept even if ordinary lang ang uban, they can become ultra-mega hits.
Pero kung Bisaya songs, bisan maayo pagka-sulat ug maayo pagka-produce, murag kinahanglan pa gyud iprove nga โdeservingโ gyud.
Is this because of quality? No. In fact, daghang Bisaya compositions nga pang world-class gyud. Nahuman na ta sa panahon nga novelty songs lang ang gi-associate sa atong music.
Even in performances and talent fees, mas taas ug demand ug presyo ang Tagalog artists. Is it because they are always better? No. Daghan kaayo Bisaya talents nga muperform with greater skill and artistry. The difference is that they have the system, the industry, and the consistent support, and that is something we must build for ourselves as well.
This is why cultural movements like the Bagani sa Gugma Concert exist, and why Oh! Caraga continues to sing proudly in Bisaya: to give value to our own language, and to give value to our own artists.
We are pushing forward with Bagani sa Gugma to bridge the gap and to prove that Bisaya music deserves the same spotlight. But this vision will never be realized without the support of the Katribus and all Bisaya who believe in the worth of our language, our culture, and our artists.
The biggest question remains: Do Bisaya artists and songs receive the support they truly deserve? Not yet, probably, but we firmly believe the time will come.
Muabot ang panahon nga Bisaya will no longer be labeled as โregional artists/songsโ because in truth, we can compete in the same category as anyone.
Muabot ang panahon nga Bisaya artists with Bisaya songs will be invited and honored in any National Music Awards.
And if that time does not arrive soon, then kita ra gihapon mga Bisaya ang maghimo sa atong kaugalingong platforms and recognitions.
Bottom line: no one else will love and support Bisaya music if not us. Walay lain mupanghinambog sa Binisaya kung dili kita ra pud, mga Bisaya.
Padayon ta. Kay kung dili ta magtinabangay, kinsa pa man? If di karon, kanus-a man?
Kita ta sa concert mga Bisaya.
