Health officials are urging the public not to let their guard down.

The Manila city government is encouraging residents to wear face masks again and follow basic health precautions as COVID-19 cases begin to rise in parts of Metro Manila.

In its advisory, the Manila City Health Department urged people to "wear a face mask, avoid crowded places, continue practicing physical distancing, stay at home if feeling unwell and seek urgent care if needed." The reminder comes after a recent increase in COVID-19 infections in Quezon City and other areas across the National Capital Region.

Quezon City reported a 265% increase in cases, although local officials said the vast majority of infections remain mild. Even so, health authorities are reminding the public that simple preventive measures can still help reduce the spread of the virus, especially in crowded spaces and among vulnerable individuals.

For many, the return of mask advisories feels like a reminder of a chapter they hoped was already behind them. Whether these precautions become routine again may depend on how the current surge develops in the weeks ahead.
