The Walking Dead Issue 6 concludes the comic's first story arc ("Days Gone Bye") with a fatal confrontation between Rick and Shane.

The survivors hold a somber funeral for Amy following the devastating zombie attack on the camp. Andrea remains by the grave, deeply grieving her sister.

Jim's health rapidly deteriorates after being bitten during the attack. Recognizing his inevitable fate, he requests that the group leave him behind on the road to turn and reunite with his deceased family.

Rick insists that the camp is too dangerous and the group needs to move closer to Atlanta. Shane vehemently disagrees, spiraling into anger as he feels his leadership, status, and relationship with Lori are being entirely supplanted by Rick. Shane was the undisputed leader who successfully kept the group alive. Once Rick arrives, the group naturally shifts their loyalty and looks to Rick for decisions. Shane and Lori had a romantic relationship while believing Rick was dead. Rick’s return immediately ends the affair, shattering Shane's dream of a future with her. Shane had stepped into the role of a surrogate father to Carl and a protector to Lori. He genuinely feels that Rick "stole" his ready-made family away from him.

Shane convinces himself that Rick's survival is a mistake. He believes that for him to have his life, leadership, and Lori back, Rick needs to die. Unlike the TV show where Shane's descent takes months, the comic version shows Shane snapping rapidly under the immense pressure of the apocalypse and sudden personal rejection.

Issue ends on Shane who loses control, drags Rick into the woods, and pulls a gun on him. Before Shane can shoot, seven-year-old Carl Grimes shoots Shane in the neck to protect his father. Shane bleeds out and dies, leaving Rick to comfort his traumatized son.

# 6 The Walking Dead Vol.1

The issue serves primarily as a heavy, high-concept lore exposition piece that dives into the backstories, rules, and factions surrounding the multiversal Incursions.

The Illuminati return to Earth-616 after witnessing Galactus destroy an alternate Earth to resolve an Incursion. They brought back with them Terrax but later on pivot their focus to interrogating Black Swan (Yabbat Ummon Turru), the enigmatic multi-dimensional traveler they have locked in the Necropolis.

Black Swan reveals her tragic origin story. She was originally a princess from an alternate Earth. Her brother who was a keeper of the Great Key can unlock a Library Of Worlds and in hopes to find the Great Ladies (Black Swans) which they have never seen. Until one day her home world was decimated by the Black Priest who descended to her earth, forcing her to flee through the Library of Worlds. The Great Ladies found her eventually telling her that her world was an offering to Rabum Alal The Great Destroyer. This is where she was raised to become one of them the Black Swan.

She provides crucial data regarding the mechanics of the collapsing Multiverse, revealing that the destruction is not a natural cosmic decay but is actively driven by powerful, god-like factions.

Black Swan singled out Beast (Hank McCoy) to deliver a chilling revelation about his alternate-reality variants and his role in the multiversal crisis. During her interrogation, Reed Richards asks if there is a way to stop the Incursions, and she responds that it is actually quite simple: they just need to evacuate their Earth and destroy it. When the heroes look horrified, she points directly at Hank McCoy. She explains that many other versions of the Beast across the multiverse have already done this exact same thing—they solved the Incursions by choosing to blow up parallel Earths to save their own timelines.

Black Swan further tells them (Illuminati) that incursions couldn't be stopped until everything dies. When Black Swan tells Beast that other versions of him have saved their worlds many times by evacuating and destroying the invading planet (the "Eighth Way" or "Shading the Apocalypse"), she is referring to using an anti-matter bomb or world-destroying device.

Immediately following her grim revelation to Beast, Black Swan offers the Illuminati proof of her good intentions by criticizing the tracking technology they are currently using. She points out that the Illuminati are using basic tracking devices implanted into the palms of their hands, which only alert them the exact moment an Incursion begins. She tells them that their palm sensors are completely inadequate. She reveals that she has special devices implanted directly into her eyes. These implants operate slightly out of phase with the native universe, allowing her to see and forecast an incoming Incursion minutes or hours before it physically starts.

She promises to teach them how to build these superior, predictive tracking devices so they won't be caught off guard. To prove her point, she uses her eye implants right then and there to warn them that a brand new Incursion is about to start in Latveria in mere minutes.

# 5 New Avengers 2013 : Black Swans

The storyline serves as a crucial tie-in to the Infinite Crisis crossover event. The issue famously features a brutal showdown between the current Robin (Tim Drake) and his resurrected predecessor, Jason Todd (operating as Red Hood).

The issue opens on a Sunday night at Titans Tower. The recently resurrected Donna Troy contacts Cyborg, asking him to gather a team of veteran heroes to investigate a cosmic rift in space. Cyborg leaves Beast Boy in charge of the tower as the temporary leader. Because Superboy has recently quit and the remaining newer members (Speedy, Kid Flash, and Wonder Girl) have gone home for the night, the tower is largely empty.

The Maxwell Lord Broadcast: The issue takes place during the buildup to Infinite Crisis. Characters throughout the issue see news broadcasts reporting on the shocking footage of Wonder Woman executing the villain Maxwell Lord.
The Bat-Family Fallout: This heavily controversial broadcast is a major reason why the Justice League is fractured, prompting Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent to distance themselves from Diana during this specific timeframe.

Unbeknownst to the team, Jason Todd (Red Hood) breaks into Titans Tower. Driven by lingering resentment about his death and how quickly he was replaced, he systemically and stealthily incapacitates the remaining members. He ambushes Cyborg and Beast Boy in the hallway, knocking them out with an electrical trap. He sneaks into Raven's room while she sleeps and uses knockout gas on her, expressing a brief, twisted moment of sympathy for her before she passes out.

Jason then discovers the Hall of Fallen Titans. He flies into a rage upon realizing there is no statue dedicated to him, smashing the memorials of other fallen heroes in anger because he feels his time as a Titan was completely ignored. Jason corners Tim Drake in the training room. He tears off his Red Hood outfit to reveal a modified version of his old Robin costume underneath. A vicious, deeply personal physical and psychological battle ensues. Jason taunts Tim, mocking his combat skills and claiming that Tim is merely a placeholder. Even though Tim fights fiercely, Jason eventually overpowers him.

Instead of killing Tim, Jason tears the "R" emblem off Tim’s uniform. He leaves him beaten but alive, walking away with the declaration that he is still the superior Robin.

Raven's peaceful rest is violently cut short at the very end of the comic. Because the fabric of reality is tearing apart due to Infinite Crisis, the cosmic barriers between life and death completely shatter.As Raven wakes up and recovers from the gas, her "Soul Self" (her astral projection) is violently hijacked from the inside out. She experiences agonizing spiritual violation as the demonic Brother Blood forces his way out of her soul to return to the land of the living.

The issue concludes with a horror-infused cliffhanger tied directly to the reality-shattering events of Infinite Crisis. Because the boundaries between life and death are fracturing across the universe, Brother Blood successfully escapes the land of the dead. He returns to Earth alongside Mother Mayhem (who has possessed the co**se of deceased Titan Lilith Clay), preparing to raise an army of undead Titans.

# 29 Teen Titans : Life and Death

The issue begins with a brief overview of the Green Lantern Corps' history. Suddenly, a glowing emerald ship rockets directly out of the sun and crashes violently into the Nellis Bombing and Gunnery Range in Nevada. Two nearby hitchhikers rush to the wreckage and find Kyle Rayner inside. Refusing to activate his power ring, a physically exhausted Kyle collapses, muttering a chilling warning: "It has a name."

In Coast City, Carol Ferris is inspecting the airfield when she discovers a flawless, mysterious jet sitting on the tarmac. Upon closer inspection, she realizes it is a pristine replica of the plane once flown by her former lover, Hal Jordan, materializing out of thin air.

At a packed baseball stadium, John Stewart and Guy Gardner meet with the current spirit form of Hal Jordan. Ever since his sacrifice, Hal's soul has been bound to the Spectre (the cosmic Spirit of Vengeance). The reunion is cut short as ordinary citizens in the crowd suddenly sense the Spectre's presence. Driven to madness, they swarm Hal, weeping and desperately confessing their darkest sins to him.

Later that evening, John and Guy unwind at Guy Gardner's bar. Without warning, Guy's Vuldarian alien physiology begins to violently reject itself. His body mutates uncontrollably, triggering a massive energy surge that completely obliterates the bar.

In Star City, Oliver Queen and his sidekick, Speedy (Mia Dearden), are prepping for a routine night patrol. Suddenly, the villain Black Hand blasts through the wall of the Arrowcave. Black Hand uses a tracking device to locate a hidden chamber containing Hal Jordan's old backup Power Ring, which Oliver had been secretly guarding. Hal Jordan suddenly manifests as the Spectre. Bound by his divine duty as the Spirit of Vengeance, the Spectre touches Black Hand's pinned hand, causing it to instantly wither into ash and burn away.

Before fading away, Hal warns Oliver that a cosmic entity is coming and that something is deeply wrong. Oliver picks up the emerald ring, noting that Hal gave it to him years ago to hold onto "only in case of an emergency." Deciding this cosmic chaos fits the bill, Oliver keeps the ring.

The Flash (Wally West) spends his time investigating the bizarre phenomena popping up across the globe and firmly defending Hal Jordan's legacy against a skeptical Justice League. As strange green energy constructs begin materializing out of nowhere, the Flash teams up with Aquaman to investigate a massive disturbance in the ruins of Coast City.
At the site, Wally and Aquaman discover that a ruined building has perfectly reconstructed itself. Wally identifies it as Hal Jordan’s old apartment building, realizing that Hal's past is literally rewriting reality.

When Batman sees the Coast City reconstruction as a threat—arguing that Hal Jordan is an unstable criminal planning a power grab—Wally immediately snaps back. He fiercely defends his late friend, reminding Batman and the League that Hal sacrificed his life to save the Earth during The Final Night, and refuses to let them brand Hal a monster without proof.

During the Justice League Watchtower briefing, when the Flash tries to defend Hal's past actions, Batman bluntly shuts him down. He explicitly states that Hal Jordan became a mass murderer who slaughtered the Green Lantern Corps, and his death did not wipe away his crimes.

As Batman continually disparages Hal Jordan’s character and demands the League treat him as an active, hostile threat, John Stewart snaps. He interrupts Batman, stating, "No. I'm tired of this. I'm tired of the disrespect Batman slings Hal's way."

Visually, Batman is always drawn shrouded in deep shadows to look menacing. John activates his power ring and shines a bright, piercing emerald light directly onto Batman. This completely washes away the shadows and forces Batman to cover his eyes, exposing him as just an ordinary human. As issue ends with Carol back in Coast City and moments in later Hal Jordan appears in front of her.

# 1 Green Lantern Rebirth 2004 : Blackest Night

The issue serves as a crucial prelude to the War of the Bounty Hunters crossover event, focusing on Vader's brutal recovery and his sudden obsession with tracking down Han Solo.

Following his failed rebellion against Emperor Palpatine and his harrowing journey to Exegol, a broken Darth Vader returns to the secret Imperial laboratories on Coruscant. He is subjected to agonizing surgical reconstruction without anesthesia.

As Vader suffers under the droid repair knives, he experiences flashbacks to the aftermath of the Battle of Yavin. He vividly remembers the moment he first discovered the identity of the pilot who shot down his TIE Advanced during the trench run: Han Solo.

Vader reasons that the key to breaking his son, Luke Skywalker, is to destroy the friends who make him vulnerable. By eliminating or capturing Han Solo, he can crush Luke's hope. Once repaired, Vader mobilizes to intercept the carbonite-frozen Han Solo, who was supposedly being delivered to Jabba the Hutt by Boba Fett. Armed with the knowledge that Fett has lost the carbonite block, Vader enlists the assassin Ochi of Bestoon.

The issue concludes with Vader and Ochi traveling to the Outer Rim to confront Bokku the Hutt, a member of the Hutt Council. Vader intimidatingly introduces himself to Bokku, subverting Hutt authority to establish a network to track down Solo's missing location.

# 12 Star Wars Darth Vader 2020 : Into The Trap (War Of The Bounty Hunters)

The X-Men infiltrate the Hellfire Club but are completely defeated by the Inner Circle, culminating in the corruption of Jean Grey and an iconic final-page cliffhanger for Wolverine.

Fearing that their mansion has been bugged and compromised by enemies who know too much about their danger room strategies, Cyclops takes the team to Angel’s private desert home in New Mexico. While there, Scott Summers shares his growing dread regarding Jean Grey’s increasingly volatile, casual, and god-like usage of her Phoenix powers.

Cyclops learns that Angel (Warren Worthington III) holds a legacy membership to the elite, millionaire-only Hellfire Club. Realizing this group is behind the recent attacks on mutants, Cyclops uses Warren's status to secure invitations to a high-society gala at the club's Manhattan townhouse. Leaving Professor X behind, the X-Men dress in formal attire and sneak into the party to gather intel.

The Hellfire Club's mutant Inner Circle is waiting for them and strikes with overwhelming force.
Villain Jason Wyngarde (Mastermind) uses his psychic illusions to completely shatter Jean Grey's mind. He forcefully brainwashes her into believing she is an 18th-century aristocrat, successfully turning her against her own team. The Black Queen.

Jean—now transformed into the villainous Black Queen—attacks and psychically drops Cyclops. Simultaneously, Sebastian Shaw (who absorbs kinetic energy) overpowers Storm and Colossus, while the cyborg Donald Pierce tackles Nightcrawler.

Wolverine attempts a counter-attack but is intercepted by Harry Leland, a mutant who can manipulate the mass and gravity of objects. Leland drastically increases Wolverine’s mass, weighing him down by several tons until the floor collapses beneath him. Wolverine plummets into the dark, flooded sewers below the building, and the Hellfire Club leaves him for dead, believing they have won completely.

The issue famously concludes in the dark sewers. A battered but completely furious Wolverine pops his claws out of the water, vowing to break back into the sub-basement and slaughter the Hellfire Club to save his team.

# 132 The Uncanny X-Men : And Hellfire Is Their Name

The Illuminati pivot to desperate contingency plans to protect Earth from the upcoming multi-dimensional Incursions.

In the Necropolis, Mister Fantastic and Black Panther reveal they have reverse-engineered Black Swan’s technology to build an antiproton sling capable of vaporizing an alternate Earth. They have also designed a vibranium-fitted Ultimate Nullifier as an ultimate fallback weapon.

Iron Man unveils his secret project, using Shi'ar technology to build a massive Dyson Sphere on the opposite side of the Sun. Reed Richards calls it Sol's Hammer.

Frustrated by scientific half-measures, Doctor Strange begins studying the Blu'dakorr, a highly dangerous, ancient text of dark magic, ignoring warnings about the cost to his soul.

At New York as an Incursion is about to happen. Before traveling to the alternate Earth, the Illuminati gather in the Necropolis to discuss their options and reveal their secret contingency plans. Eventually, they use Black Swan's active portal tech at the New York Incursion site to bridge the gap between universes.
They establish that they are stepping through not to fight yet, but purely as an observation mission to witness exactly what a localized Incursion looks like from the ground.

Suddenly, they watch in horror as that universe's Earth is simultaneously devoured by Galactus. Even though Galactus consuming that universe's Earth would technically solve their Incursion problem—because destroying that Earth would save both universes and keep Earth-616 safe—the team morally refused to just let billions of innocent people die. When Galactus arrives, the Illuminati realize his feeding will destroy the planet and end the Incursion. Reed Richards explicitly states that they cannot simply stand by and let this Earth's population perish. Galactus’s herald, Terrax the Truly Enlightened, arrives and orders the Illuminati to stand down. He argues they should accept their "good fortune," go home, and let Galactus consume the world to save the wider universe.

Refusing to sacrifice the planet's inhabitants, the Illuminati defy Terrax's warnings. They choose to stand their ground and engage the herald in active combat to try and find a way to save the planet.

# 4 New Avengers 2013 : World Eater

This issue serves as a direct tie-in to the massive Infinite Crisis crossover event.

The Secret Society of Super Villains sends the demonic Sabbac (Ishmael Gregor) and the Fearsome Five to launch a brutal assault against the Outsiders at Alcatraz.

The stakes escalate drastically when the Spectre's reality-shaking rampage across the DC Universe destroys the Rock of Eternity. As a direct consequence, the spirits of the Seven Deadly Sins escape and are absorbed by Sabbac. Now infused with the raw power of the Sins, Sabbac transforms into a nearly unstoppable behemoth, utilizing his amplified demonic influence to manipulate and overwhelm everyone around him.

During the clash at Alcatraz, Sabbac becomes exponentially more powerful by absorbing the escaping Seven Deadly Sins. This allows him to manipulate the very emotions and sins of everyone on the battlefield, causing total chaos for both the heroes and his own allies. Sabbac tests his newly acquired powers on the Outsiders. When he projects the sin of Wrath/Rage onto the team, their vehicle (the Pequod) crashes and explodes. Though they survive, the team is physically battered and emotionally manipulated.

The Outsiders are left entirely reeling until Katana arrives at the battlefield, providing the critical reinforcements needed to turn the tide. Working together with Captain Marvel Jr., the team manages to subdue the empowered demon, ultimately trapping and imprisoning Sabbac's spirit inside Katana's mystical Soultaker sword. Serving as the team's vital reinforcement, Katana arrives in a new costume and engages the supernatural threat. Working with Captain Marvel Jr., she manages to turn the tide of the battle.

Donna appears at the very end of the issue, serving as the ultimate cliffhanger. Following the brutal, exhausting victory over Sabbac, the Outsiders are left battered and completely reeling. Donna manifests before the exhausted team, not as a comrade looking to assist with their local wounds, but as a cosmic herald with an urgent warning. She arrives to reveal that a universal-level cataclysm is unfolding in deep space, effectively altering the direction of the series into the next storyline.

She utilizes this encounter to recruit specific team members—most notably Jade and Starfire—pulling them away from Earth's street-level skirmishes and drafting them into her crucial cosmic army.

# 30 Outsiders : Unoriginal Sins Part 2 All Hell Breaks Loose

The issue focuses heavily on the origin and mystery surrounding the new Captain Universe and her human host Tamara Devoux.

Shang-Chi monitors Tamara Devoux, a woman suffering from severe amnesia who serves as the current physical avatar for the Uni-Power (Captain Universe).

Shang-Chi coaxes out her human memories, revealing that she was in a devastating car crash and has been stuck in a 10-year coma.

Tamara is traumatized to learn that a decade has passed and her young daughter's current whereabouts are completely unknown.

On the other hand, Spider-Man has a highly memorable, comedic encounter with Cannonball (Sam Guthrie) and Sunspot (Roberto da Costa). Spider Man
approaches the duo and completely insults them. He views them as amateur, undisciplined children who don't belong on a premier team like the Avengers. He openly belittles their powers, intelligence, and mutant backgrounds, basically telling them they are wasting space in the tower.

Back on Shang Chi and Cap.Universe, the emotional shock forces the Captain Universe persona to take full control again. She cryptically warns Shang-Chi that the universe is broken and dying, and her manifestation is a response to this terminal multiversal decay.

Utilizing her cosmic power, Captain Universe translates the speech of Nightmask's captive construct, Blackveil. The entity speaks in English for the first time, delivering an ominous warning that "The Builders" are coming to initiate the end of worlds.

In the final moments of the issue, the White Event is introduced as a sudden, terrifying cosmic emergency that manifests as an electric-white sky and massive, swirling bolts of energy rushing to consume the Earth.

Once Captain Universe translates Nightmask’s speech, the Avengers are finally able to understand his frantic warnings. He explicitly repeats two chilling phrases:

The system is broken.

It's coming. It's here... the White Event.

As soon as those words are translated, the issue ends on a dramatic cliffhanger: the sky above Tony Stark’s laboratory transforms into a blinding, unnatural white light. This physical light signal marks the automated, chaotic arrival of a planetary defense mechanism that hits Earth-616 in the very next issue.

# 6 Avengers 2013 : True Believers / Zen & The Art Of Cosmology

Following the destructive battle with Galactus and the Black Winter, the issue serves as a foundational pivot point focusing on the changing enchantment of Thor's hammer.

The story opens in Broxton, Oklahoma, where an auto mechanic named Adam Aziz witnesses Mjolnir crash-land into a nearby field. When Adam approaches the unliftable weapon, he sees a message written on the side: "Call Tony Stark. 212-970-4133.".

In Asgard, Sif confronts Thor about why he threw his hammer back to Earth. Thor reveals that he is testing a theory because Mjolnir is becoming heavier for him to lift while seemingly growing easier for others to handle.

Back on Earth, Tony Stark arrives in Broxton furious that his private mobile number has been broadcasted to the public. As a media circus gathers around the landing site, Iron Man tries to maintain crowd control and insists that no normal human can lift the hammer.

Simultaneously in Asgard, Thor meets with Beta Ray Bill to mend fences after destroying Bill's hammer, Stormbreaker, in their previous encounter. Haunted by a dark vision of his death at the hands of Thanos, Thor asks Bill to serve as his second-in-command if the worst should happen. Thor feels that as the Mjolnir becomes heavier for him to lift he feels he is slowly becoming unworthy of lifting the hammer.

Back in Oklahoma, the inscription on Mjolnir suddenly changes to a simple directive: "Pick it up.". Before Iron Man can stop him, Adam Aziz reaches out, effortlessly lifts the hammer, and is instantly transformed into an armored, Thor-like hero.
