Romeo Sta. Cruz, Jr.
Loyal lieutenant. Trusted friend. Walking, talking institutional memory of anything that ever happened underground, especially in the colorful, sometimes questionable, always entertaining world of Cebu media “mafias”.

You may not always understand him and that’s okay. He probably already understood you three sentences ago. Needs anticipated. Problems pre solved. Opinions strong. Methods sometimes irritating but miraculously effective.

Deeply religious and intensely prayerful because when you’ve been where he’s been, you don’t rely on luck alone. He’s been places. He’s kept pace. He’s survived meetings, deadlines, egos, and the occasional emergency that wasn’t.

Now at 70, he is a fully certified septuagenarian complete with wisdom, war stories, and zero patience for nonsense. This is not retirement age. This is legend status. A badge of honor earned the hard way, worn proudly, and occasionally used to say I TOLD YOU SO…

Still standing. Still sharp. Still indispensable. And still knowing things he’s absolutely not telling.
Jun Sta Cruz.

In the world of pageantry, perfection is a myth - but improvement isn't. Jaytee Tariman, a seasoned beauty coach, reminds aspiring talents that the goal isn't flawlessness but growth.

"We're here to enhance, not to perfect. Nobody is perfect,"
Tariman said during a recent discussion with Cebu media. His approach focuses on developing confidence, refining skills, and nurturing character - acknowledging that every contestant has unique strengths to build upon.

This philosophy has become a cornerstone of Cebu's rising reputation in pageantry, where preparation meets self-discovery. Tariman emphasizes that the real edge comes from mindset, discipline, and the willingness to learn, rather than chasing an impossible standard of perfection.

Winning in pageantry isn't about luck - it's about preparation, and Cebu is proving it. Renowned pageant coach Winston Sy shared insights from the recent surge of Cebuano talent making waves nationally and internationally.

"Winning isn't luck - it's structure, training, and a team that pushes you," Sy explained, underscoring the methodical approach behind every crown. From personality development and runway coaching to communication skills and mental preparedness, Cebu's pageant contenders are building a foundation that consistently produces champions.

Experts say this disciplined framework is what sets Cebu apart in competitions, showing that success is as much about the process as the result. Sy's approach highlights that behind every triumph is a system designed to nurture talent, build confidence, and refine skills.

In a city where every drop counts, transparency isn't just good practice - it's a necessity. Minerva Gerodias of the Metro Cebu Water District (MCWD) emphasized this during a recent discussion on water management, reminding residents that their daily lives depend on how responsibly the utility operates.

"Transparency isn't optional when people's daily lives depend on water," Gerodias said, highlighting MCWD's ongoing initiatives to keep operations clear and accountable. From pipeline maintenance to rate adjustments and public communication, the agency aims to ensure that every resident knows where their water comes from and how it's managed.

Experts note that open communication builds trust, especially in sectors that directly affect health and livelihood. MCWD's focus on transparency reinforces that accountability and public service are inseparable when it comes to essential utilities.

Barangay Sto. Niño's Secret to Three Straight Years as a Drug-Cleared Barangay

Cebu City's Barangay Sto. Niño isn't just surviving - it's setting standards. For three consecutive years, this barangay has maintained its drug-cleared status, a feat that local leaders say isn't luck but relentless work.

Barangay officials emphasize that being declared drug-cleared is just the beginning. "Drug cleared doesn't mean complacency," they note. Behind the scenes are 24/7 community monitoring, consistent coordination with law enforcement, and a commitment to keeping their streets safe and orderly.

Residents feel the impact daily. From safer neighborhoods to active local programs, Sto. Niño shows that public safety requires constant vigilane, not a one-time sweep. Barangay Captain Lulu Ramirez stresses that clearing the area is easy, but providing long-term security and opportunities for residents demands persistence - and partnership with government programs.

Barangay Sto. Niño's disciplined approach demonstrates that sustainable community safety is built on consistent effort, vigilance, and active governance.

Beauty Evolved - Did You? Cebu Coach Calls Out Old-School Pageant Mindset

The pageant world isn't the same arena it was 10 years ago - and Cebu's top coach Jaytee Tariman isn't shy about saying it straight.

During the recent session, he dropped a line that perfectly sums up the global shift:

"The pageant world evolved - the only question is: did you evolve with it? Beauty is diverse, and the world finally agrees."

It hits because it's true.
The era of "one face, one body type, one standard" is dead.
Judges today are looking for:

✨ Authenticity over perfection
✨ Confidence over conformity
✨ Representation over replication
✨ Depth, grit, and personal story - not just highlights and contour

And Cebu?
Cebu is right at the front of this revolution. With international wins, stronger youth programs, and coaches pushing modern standards, the city is proving that beauty isn't a mold - it's a spectrum.

Jaytee's message is a challenge to aspiring queens:
If the industry moved forward and you stayed in 2010, you're not competing - you're reminiscing.

Pageantry finally opened its doors to all kinds of beauty.
Now the question is: Are you stepping in?
