It’s been a while I connected with a story like I connected with that of Efe in the movie “To kill a monkey”.
The acting of Bucci as Oboz is something else but stay with me on the story of Efe.
I saw a man give it all and still fail
I saw him do everything we are asked to do but still it didn’t lead anywhere.
I saw him insulted, mocked, rejected, shamed.
I saw his limit tested and I saw him struggle to uphold good values.
Unfortunately, I also saw him break
I saw him get lost and in the end, lost everything all over again.
As a man, a husband, a father, a son, a son in law, Efe was and is everything many of us go through. Our unspoken journeys when we smile back home.
Every single step of his journey triggered me as I thought, would I have been different given the circumstances?
And all for what? Just to be able to be a man to provide and care for his own.
This (or a variant of it) is what many of us men have to go through yet this side is not seen or heard.
Maybe someday wives will find out just how rough it can be to provide but for now, if you have a man putting in everything, appreciate him.
The Mrs doesn’t understand why I got very emotional for Efe but I promise you, every man who has had to struggle through rejection will get it and connect.
It sort of just makes you wonder, is it all worth it?
This movie got to me.
