Veteran sportscaster Sev Sarmenta is advocating for the inclusion of gymnastics in the country’s major collegiate leagues, such as the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

In an interview with One PH’s Sa Totoo Lang on Monday, Sarmenta emphasized the need for this inclusion to tap into the country’s talent and improve training opportunities for Filipino gymnasts.

"Isang malaking konsiderasyon is I think we should start thinking about making gymnastics part of the collegiate leagues, the UAAP, NCAA, and other leagues," Sarmenta said.

"Nakita natin na ang dami nating talent na pwedeng madudukot at maigogrow, kaso kailangan natin sila i-train abroad. Hindi enough ang coaching dito," he added.

Sarmenta, along with sports analysts Joy Valenton and Linzi Arellano-Co, served as a commentator during two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo’s performances in the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
