Rare baby rainbow tripod fish spotted, resembles jellyfish
A video circulating online has captured a rare sight — a baby rainbow tripod fish swimming near the ocean surface, dazzling viewers with its striking, jellyfish-like appearance.
Tripod fish are usually deep-sea dwellers, but when they are young, they stay closer to the surface. At this stage, their transparent bodies shimmer with rainbow hues, making them look almost identical to delicate jellyfish drifting in open water.
As they mature, tripod fish take on their unique adult form, with long, spindly fins that allow them to “stand” on the seafloor, resembling a tripod. They are typically found in the dark depths of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, thousands of meters below the surface.
Marine experts note that sightings of baby tripod fish are extremely rare. Videos like this give researchers and ocean enthusiasts a chance to better understand how these elusive creatures grow and survive in the deep sea.
For many, the colorful display is also a reminder of how much of the ocean remains unexplored, with countless species still waiting to be discovered.
