Every October, the Philippines celebrates ๐ˆ๐ง๐๐ข๐ ๐ž๐ง๐จ๐ฎ๐ฌ ๐๐ž๐จ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ž๐ฌ' ๐Œ๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ก, which is more than just a date on the calendarโ€”itโ€™s a heartfelt commitment to our roots. This month is dedicated to recognizing and honoring the Indigenous Cultural Communities (ICCs) and Indigenous Peoples (IPs), the original caretakers of our islands' land and traditions. With over 110 distinct groups, from the Lumad in the south to the Igorot in the north, our IPs are the living proof of our pre-colonial history. By focusing on them, we celebrate their incredible resilience, their unique languages, and their profound wisdom on how to live in harmony with natureโ€”a crucial part of what it means to be Filipino.

The seriousness of this commitment is backed by law: the This landmark law isn't about giving IPs a handout; it's about making sure their fundamental human rights are protected. IPRA guarantees four core rights: the right to their ancestral lands, the right to govern themselves, the right to social justice, and the right to practice their beautiful cultures freely. This framework, enforced by the NCIP, ensures that the celebration translates into tangible action, empowering these communities to own their future and protect their resources without fear of being pushed aside.

Indigenous Peoples' Month calls on all of us to be more than just observers; it asks us to be active partners. When we attend a cultural demonstration, buy an authentic woven fabric, or listen to an elder speak, we are taking part in cultural preservation. The knowledge held by these communities from sustainable farming to traditional medicine is too valuable to lose.

So this October, let's step up.

LLCC shifts to online synchronous classes following suspension of face-to-face sessions due to aftershocks

Lapu-Lapu City College (LLCC) has announced the suspension of face-to-face classes from October 20 to 25, 2025, following the directive of Hon. Mayor Ma. Cynthia โ€œCindiโ€ King Chan, Chair of the Board of Trustees, in light of the ongoing aftershocks felt across the city.

The decision, made after a joint deliberation between DepEd Tayo Lapu-Lapu City and Metro Cebu leaders, aims to ensure the safety of students and staff as authorities continue to monitor seismic activities in coordination with PHIVOLCS, NDRRMO, CDRRMO, and PAGASA.

In line with this, Dr. Maria Noeleen M. Borbajo, Lapu-Lapu City College (LLCC) Administrator released a memorandum directing all faculty members to conduct online synchronous classes during the suspension period.

According to the memo, instructors are required to hold a maximum of 45 minutes to 1 hour of synchronous classes for every 1 hour and 30-minute schedule, and a maximum of 2 hours for every 3-hour class from October 20โ€“25, 2025. This aims to ensure that guidelines on final outputs and other academic requirements are properly communicated to students in preparation for the final examination period set on October 27โ€“30, 2025.

Meanwhile, all administrative officials, faculty, and support services staff are instructed to report onsite to maintain the continuity of academic and institutional operations.

The memorandum also highlights the importance of consistent communication, learning support, and compassionate engagement to uphold both physical and mental wellness during this period of adjustment.

Parents are reminded to keep their children safe at home and discourage them from going to public places, as the suspension aims to minimize potential risks from aftershocks.

Residents and students are encouraged to stay vigilant and pray for everyoneโ€™s safety as the city continues to experience minor tremors.

๐ˆ๐‚๐˜๐Œ๐ˆ | CoEd Faculty, Pre-Service Representative join Capacity Enhancement Training on the Reframed Pre-Service Teacher Education Curriculum

Representatives from Lapu-Lapu City College (LLCC) actively participated in the Capacity Enhancement for Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) in Implementing the Reframed Pre-Service Teacher Education Curriculum held from October 13โ€“15, 2025, at the Cebu Quincentennial Hotel, Cebu City.

Organized by the Teacher Education Council (TEC), the three-day capacity enhancement program aimed to strengthen the competencies of Professional Education (ProfEd) educators, pre-service teachers, and TEI administrators in effectively implementing the newly approved Reframed Pre-Service Teacher Education Curriculum, formally adopted in May 2025.

The program opened with sessions on Setting the Context of the Reframed Curriculum, Building Teacher Capacity for Targeted Learning, and Application of the Science of Learning, led by experts from the Teacher Education Council, Innovation for Poverty Action (IPA), and the University of New England. These discussions established a strong foundation for understanding the curriculumโ€™s framework and the integration of research-based and inclusive teaching practices.

Succeeding sessions delved into The Reframed Pre-Service Teacher Education Curriculum: Expectations for Teacher Educators, Overview of the Reframed Professional Education Courses Syllabus Guides, and Ensuring Constructive Alignment in Instruction. Facilitated by specialists from the Philippine Normal University (PNU), these workshops allowed participants to analyze course alignment and instructional design approaches anchored on the curriculumโ€™s guiding principles.

The final series of sessions centered on Implementing the Reframed Teacher Education Curriculum: Key Considerations for Teacher Education Institutions, Evaluation of the Content of the Capacity Enhancement, and a Train-Back Workshop (Sharing What Weโ€™ve Learned). Facilitators from the Teacher Education Council Secretariat and the Quality Pre-Service Teacher Education Office guided the participants in collaborative reflection and institutional planning to sustain curriculum innovation.

Education specialists and academic consultants from partner institutions shared research-based insights and practical frameworks for effective curriculum design and delivery. Participants also engaged in interactive workshops, deep dives on course syllabi, and collaborative activities emphasizing reflective practice and institutional alignment.

The college was represented by faculty members specializing in key areas of teacher education, together with a pre-service teacher, ensuring holistic participation in the training. Representing the institution were Dr. Marsha H. Malbas, Dean of the College of Education (The Teacher as a Person and as a Professional); Mrs. Mary Jane A. Obispo, Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) Program Chair (Learner Assessment); Mr. Aldrin G. Donasco, Bachelor of Elementary Education ( BEEd) Program Chair (Foundations of Teaching and Learning); Mr. James Liven B. Amoro, Research Development Office (RDO) Coordinator and Quality Assurance (QA) Officer (Theories and Approaches in Literacy Education); and Mrs. Ma. Kristel Q. Amoro, Community Extension and Services Linkages (CESL) Coordinator (Human Growth and Development).

They were also joined by faculty members Ms. Shena Marie T. Pescador (Learner-Centered Teaching) and Ms. Maricel S. Dela Cruz (Principles and Practices of Homeroom Guidance), along with pre-service teacher Mr. Gerard Kyle D. Amistad from the Bachelor of Secondary Education ( BSEd) major in Mathematics program.

Throughout the event, LLCC representatives actively participated in discussions and collaborative learning sessions that deepened their understanding of the reframed curriculum and its classroom application. Their engagement reflected the Collegeโ€™s commitment to advancing teacher education and contributing to the broader national effort to elevate the standards of teacher preparation.

This participation underscores Lapu-Lapu City Collegeโ€™s dedication to promoting quality and transformative teacher education, in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, by empowering educators and fostering evidence-based teaching practices for globally competent Filipino teachers.
