CTHA 2025 Honors Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality

Cebu raises the bar in tourism and hospitality through the 4th Cebu Tourism and Hospitality Awards (CTHA), a program that honors outstanding individuals who embody service, professionalism, and excellence. The CTHA 2025 will be held on August 13, 2025 at the Ayala Center Cebu.

“We envisioned the CTHA to be a platform to highlight the high-caliber people we have—those who are passionate and dedicated to delivering true Cebuano hospitality to the world,” said Mia Singson-Leon, President of the Hotel, Resort, and Restaurant Association of Cebu (HRRAC) and General Manager of Quest Hotel. “To be a world-class MICE destination, we must offer not just beautiful venues but excellent service driven by a heart for hospitality.”

The annual awards shine a light on the unsung heroes of Cebu’s tourism and hospitality sector. CTHA honors rank-and-file staff, supervisors, managers, and educators who go above and beyond in their work.

CTHA Chairman and Seda Central Bloc Cebu General Manager Ron Manalang shared, “By honoring these individuals, we inspire others to follow a path of excellence. We want to show the country and the world how good our people truly are when it comes to hospitality.”

A panel of respected judges from different industries interviews each nominee. One key question asked of them is what innovations they or their properties introduced—whether in sustainability, marketing, or guest relations—to improve service.

Manalang emphasized that the awards do more than recognize past performance. “We’ve kept in touch with our awardees, and we see that they continue to grow in their careers. It affirms that we made the right choices, and it gives us confidence that the program will only get stronger.”

Cebu in a Bite: A Tasting Tour of Cebu’s Culinary Identity

Cebu’s culinary heritage takes center stage this July through CEBU IN A BITE, a food festival that offers more than just a feast for the senses. The event brings together timeless flavors and emerging food trends in one historic venue.

Happening at Plaza Independencia, Cebu City on July 18 (3 PM to 10 PM) and July 19 (9 AM to 11 PM), the festival carries the theme “Savor the Heritage of Cebu in Every Bite.” It is one of the events of Cebu Business Month (CBM) 2025 that highlights the vibrant street food scene of Cebu. It also offers an opportunity to savor a diverse range of local flavors — from traditional favorites to innovative fusion dishes that reflect the creativity of a new generation.

Carlo Olano, one of the Champions for this year's CBM 2025 Cebu In A Bite and the passionate advocate behind Kalami Cebu, expressed his excitement, recalling a powerful question that continues to resonate: “What if we could gather the best flavors of Cebu in one iconic place?”

That shared vision helped ignite what would become Cebu in A Bite, which began its flavorful journey in 2024 at Vibo Place, gathering around 40 food merchants united by one goal: to showcase the rich, diverse and delicious culinary heritage of Cebu. What started as a simple idea quickly evolved into a dynamic community of local food makers, from homegrown delicacies to street foods.

Olano added "We wanted to highlight not just the ‘famous’ dishes,” Olano explained, “but also the gems you find in kanto carinderias, the underrated dishes our lolos and lolas love, and even the 39-peso lemonade stands and DIY tuslob buwa kits that young Cebuanos enjoy today.”

Cebu in a Bite embraces both the nostalgic and the new. Among the must-try dishes are kaldereta, balbacua, Larsian-style BBQ, lechon, ngohiong, and an array of baked goods, pastries, and locally reimagined classics.

“Cebu’s food scene is a vibrant mix of history, migration, creativity, and resilience,” said Olano. “What makes Cebu unique is that we can be both street-smart and world-class, and our flavors tell that story.”

Held in a historic spot, the festival turns every bite into a taste of Cebu’s culture and memories. It’s more than just a food fair—it’s a delicious way to relive Cebuano life.

This year’s event is held alongside BAICON 2025, the country’s largest gathering of creators and communities, driven to elevate the country's digital entertainment industry. The timing is intentional.

“It’s a match made in marketing heaven,” Olano said. “Imagine Cebu’s best street food being enjoyed and shared online by top influencers in real time. That’s organic promotion most MSMEs can only dream of.”

Beyond visibility, the partnership provides opportunities. Through Cebu in a Bite, small businesses and food vendors gain a platform not just to sell, but to connect — with influencers, investors, and potential partners.

“CBM’s support for MSMEs goes beyond booths,” Olano emphasized. “It’s about giving them the stage they deserve — to be seen, to be tasted, and to be remembered.”

Every dish at Cebu in a Bite has a tale to tell—about the people, the place, and the culture. It’s a culinary journey that celebrates Cebu’s identity—one dish, one story, one bite at a time.

The CBM 2025 PADAYON CEBU’s Cebu In A Bite merchants include Jerbie's Kandingan, Wella's Barbecue Sa Larsian, Croffles, Chef Pablo, Lk Bakery, 8Flix And Chill, Balamban Liempo, Casa Verde, Cluck Sarap, Unlisted Burger, Don Lemon, Lechon Co, And Baka Na Pud.

Introducing the CHI-BE BURGER! YOMBIG BURGER’S newest masterpiece!

At YOMBIG BURGER, the best ideas don’t always come from the kitchen sometimes; they come straight from the customers.

The owners noticed something funny: customers would stand at the counter, debating, “Chicken burger lang kaha? Or beef burger?” Some couldn’t decide, and others ended up ordering both.

That got the owners thinking: why not bring the best of both worlds into one epic burger?

After a few late night experiments and plenty of taste tests, the CHI-BE BURGER was born.

A juicy beef patty, grilled the YOMBIG way.
A crispy, golden fried chicken fillet stacked right on top.
Fresh veggies and their signature sauce, all hugged by a soft toasted bun.

When they finally put it on the menu, it was an instant hit. Customers loved it because it solved the “chicken or beef?” dilemma — now, you don’t have to choose!

More than just a new item, the CHI-BE BURGER is a tribute to YOMBIG BURGER’S promise: to listen, create, and always serve something big, bold, and made with love…Cebuano style.

Aventus Medical Care Offers Timely, Accessible Animal Bite Care Services

Aventus Medical Care, Inc. is making critical rabies treatment more accessible through its expanded Animal Bite Care services, now available in all its clinics and via Home Health service. This initiative addresses the urgent need for prompt and proper treatment following animal bites or exposures (excluding snakebites), especially as the Philippines continues to record hundreds of rabies-related deaths each year.

In 2024 alone, the Department of Health (DOH) reported 426 fatal rabies cases. Rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms appear, but it is entirely preventable with early medical intervention.

“We treat patients with a history of scratches, bites, or even licked open wounds. Rabies exposure isn’t limited to obvious injuries,” said Dr. Donabel Pineda, Medical Director of Aventus. “Our goal is to ensure that individuals receive the necessary care immediately.”

Comprehensive Treatment Package

The Aventus Animal Bite Care package includes the anti-rabies vaccine, Rabies Immunoglobulin (RIG) administered depending on the category of exposure, and tetanus shots depending on the patient’s vaccination history. The treatments follow the DOH’s recommended schedule and are available even for minor injuries or potential exposures.

Patients can avail themselves of the service at any Aventus clinic without the need for an appointment. For those unable to visit a clinic, the service is also offered through the Aventus Home Health Service to ensure treatment is within reach. This allows greater flexibility, especially for families with young children or for individuals in remote areas.

Promoting Awareness

Beyond clinical care, Aventus is also helping raise public awareness on rabies prevention. Earlier this year, the company conducted an internal rabies awareness webinar for employees of Aventus, Intellicare, and Avega. A public session is being planned to further educate communities.

According to Dr. Pineda, misconceptions about rabies treatment have decreased in recent years due to increased awareness about the fatal consequences of rabies. “Most patients who come to us already understand the dangers of rabies and the importance of seeking treatment early,” she said.

Coverage and Expansion

The Animal Bite Care services are covered by most Aventus-accredited HMOs, including Intellicare and Avega. Coverage depends on the patient’s individual plan. While installment options are not yet available, Aventus is working toward establishing PhilHealth-accredited Animal Bite Centers to expand access to more Filipinos.

By offering comprehensive treatment, ensuring ease of access, and educating the public, Aventus is taking a proactive role in preventing rabies—a disease that continues to claim lives despite being entirely preventable.

CTHA 2025 to Recognize Excellence in Cebu’s Tourism and Hospitality Workforce

The Hotel, Resort & Restaurant Association of Cebu, Inc. (HRRACI) will once again shine a spotlight on the people behind Cebu’s thriving tourism sector through the 4th Cebu Tourism and Hospitality Awards (CTHA) scheduled on August 13, 2025 at Ayala Center Cebu.

Launched in the aftermath of the pandemic, the awards were envisioned as a platform to recognize individuals in the hospitality and tourism industry who have demonstrated outstanding service, resilience, and leadership.

“We’ve always envisioned CTHA to be an awards program for hospitality and tourism employees,” HRRACI President Mia Singson-Leon explained. “We want to highlight the high-caliber, high-quality people we have who are passionate and dedicated to delivering hospitality to the world.”

The CTHA began in 2022 at a time when the industry was still reeling from the impact of COVID-19. Amid disruptions, shortened work hours, and health risks, many frontliners continued to serve guests with professionalism and care.

“Morale was very low then. We did not work full days and there was fear because we were still on the frontlines. But despite all that, people really showed their passion for what they do,” Singson-Leon said. “Amid all the happenings, we realized that there were a lot of people who really stood out and really gave their all, and went above and beyond their responsibility.”

Award categories include Best Marketing Campaign of the Year, Sustainability Champion of the Year, Hotel & Resort Manager of the Year, Front and Heart of the House Employees of the Year, Supervisor of the Year, and Hospitality and Tourism Educator of the Year, said Ron Manalang, CTHA Chairman and Seda Central Bloc Cebu General Manager.

“This will be the first time that we will hold the CTHA in the newly renovated mall Ayala Center Cebu. And this is also the first time that we're given the opportunity to have interactive booths,” Manalang said.

He emphasized that nominees are already seen as winners, bringing value to themselves and the properties they represent.

More than an internal recognition program, the CTHA also supports Cebu’s broader vision of becoming a globally competitive MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) destination, Singson-Leon said.

“To be a world-class MICE destination, you have to be able to deliver professional service through excellent attitude and a heart for service. If you do not have that, then you cannot be a world-class MICE destination,” she stressed. “That is why we believe these awards will help set the bar and inspire others in the industry.”

The awards also reflect the importance of public-private partnerships in strengthening the tourism value chain. HRRAC noted that their programs are carried out in close coordination with the Department of Tourism (DOT) and local government units.

“There are things the private sector does well, but we cannot deliver the full experience without the support of government,” Singson-Leon said. “We want the Filipino brand of service not just in high-end hotels and resorts, but across all touchpoints—from shops and street food stalls to transport services.”

The Filipino Brand of Service program is delivered exclusively by DOT-certified trainers nationwide, ensuring quality and consistency in hospitality training across the country.

Now in its fourth year, the CTHA continues to shine a light on individuals who exemplify the very best of Cebu’s hospitality sector. By telling their stories and honoring their contributions, HRRAC hopes to inspire a ripple effect of passion, professionalism, and pride across the industry.

The 4th Cebu Tourism and Hospitality Awards (CTHA) is in Partnership with Ayala Center Cebu, Powered by Ng Khai and Endorsed by DOT Region VII. The event is also supported by the following sponsors: Converge, AppleOne Group,Seda Hotels Cebu of AyalaLand Hospitality, Filinvest Land, Inc., Globalinens Worldwide Inc., NUSTAR Resort & Casino Cebu, Delsan Office Systems Corporation, Mora, Sanchez, Meñoza and Associates as Official auditor and tabulator, Scoring Software provided by ALB IT Solutions, RMA News and the Cebu Online News Press Corps as Media Partners.
