EABC 2026 Chair pushes “ecosystem” strategy to position RP for investment shifts

The continuing tensions in the Middle East may be disrupting global trade and investment flows, but for East Asia Business Council 2026 Chair Jay Yuvallos, the uncertainty is also creating new opportunities for Southeast Asia — particularly for the Philippines.

Speaking about the evolving global economic landscape, Yuvallos said periods of disruption often force investors to seek new markets, new supply chains, and safer long-term bases for expansion.

“If there is disruption, there is also opportunity,” Yuvallos said. “The conflict changes the flow of capital and investments. Investors are now looking into other markets, and the Philippines has always been one of them.”

While economic powerhouses such as China, Japan, and South Korea continue to dominate East Asia, Yuvallos noted that international investors are increasingly turning their attention toward Southeast Asia.

Countries like Singapore and Vietnam have emerged as strong investment magnets in recent years, but he believes the Philippines remains an “undervalued” market with significant upside potential.

“The Philippines has always been undervalued,” he said. “There are many opportunities here, pockets of opportunities, and if invested in properly, the upside is very high.”

For Yuvallos, the country’s strengths go beyond population size and geography. He pointed to infrastructure, logistics, manufacturing, tourism, education, and technology as sectors that could benefit from shifting global capital.

The challenge, he said, is to stop looking at development in isolation and instead focus on building interconnected “ecosystems.”

“I always emphasize ecosystem, ecosystem, ecosystem,” Yuvallos said. “Infrastructure, technology, talent development, education pipelines, logistics — these must work together.”

He cited Cebu as an example of how ecosystem thinking can transform regional economies. According to Yuvallos, Metro Cebu already possesses many of the foundations needed for growth: export manufacturing, tourism, education hubs, and strategic port access. What is needed now is identifying the gaps and investing around them.

He sees strong potential for manufacturing in northern Cebu and for shipbuilding industries in Western Cebu. Companies such as Mitsumi have already established a manufacturing presence in Danao City while Cebu’s maritime heritage gives it a natural advantage for shipbuilding and marine-related industries.

“Cebu could become a shipbuilding capital of Asia,” he said.

But achieving this, he stressed, will require government support in technical education, engineering training, supply chain development, and infrastructure connectivity.

“We need welders, technical expertise, engineering, ship design,” he said. “Government and the private sector must support the ecosystem so it matures.”

Yuvallos also highlighted southern Cebu’s potential for tourism, retirement living, and residential developments anchored on heritage and natural attractions.

Rather than treating industries separately, he believes the province should connect them into one integrated economic network — linking logistics hubs, ports, manufacturing centers, tourism zones, and industrial corridors.

“When you connect manufacturing, logistics, tourism, and infrastructure together, the ecosystems become stronger,” he explained.

Part of this vision includes building infrastructure that directly supports industry growth. Yuvallos pointed to the importance of international ports, transport corridors, and road networks that can reduce logistics costs and attract foreign manufacturers.

He noted that investors from countries such as Japan are constantly evaluating efficiency, transport costs, and supply chain reliability before entering new markets.

“The government must allow and build infrastructure that supports the ecosystem,” he said. “It makes the Philippines more attractive for investment.”

Yuvallos also urged policymakers and business leaders to think more creatively and competitively, especially as neighboring countries aggressively position themselves for global manufacturing and supply chain expansion.

Thailand, he said, offers a useful model through its layered manufacturing ecosystem, where major global brands are supported by direct suppliers and small and medium enterprises integrated into the supply chain.

“That is how you build value chains,” he explained. “You think of the supply chain, infrastructure, technology transfer, and talent pipelines.”

For Yuvallos, the Middle East crisis is ultimately reshaping the global investment map. The question for the Philippines is whether it can move fast enough to capture the opportunities emerging from those changes.

“We have to think beyond the traditional way,” he said. “We cannot just compare ourselves to others. We have to think creatively, build ecosystems, and position the Philippines as a serious investment destination.”

Mother’s Day Celebration at Mahi Center

Mother’s Day became extra meaningful and unforgettable as Journeyscapes with Ludy, spearheaded and hosted by Ludy Vilma Atillo in partnership with Mahi Center, successfully held a two-day celebration dedicated to empowering moms, women, creatives, and families through inspiring conversations, self-care, entertainment, and genuine connection. 🤍✨

The celebration officially kicked off with the Hot Mama Media Day, a vibrant gathering that brought together media moms, content creators, inspiring women, and even fur moms in one joyful and welcoming space. More than just a Mother’s Day event, it became a beautiful reminder that while mothers spend so much time caring for others, they also deserve time to care for themselves.

Guests enjoyed self-care and skincare talks led by Ms. Ludy herself, where she shared practical reminders about confidence, wellness, and self-love. One of the highlights of the event was the make-up tutorial by the talented Jessie Glova, who shared beauty tips and techniques that left everyone inspired and excited to embrace their own beauty.

The energy inside Mahi Center became even more lively as participants joined the viral “Hawak Ko Ang Beat” dance craze led by Bernadeth Goyeneche together with the energetic ZB Sizzle Club. The crowd danced, laughed, and celebrated together, creating a fun atmosphere filled with positivity and good vibes. Exciting games, raffles, and giveaways also kept everyone entertained throughout the day, while new friendships and connections naturally blossomed among attendees. Moreover, everyone went home with a photoman souvenir (printed photo) prepared by JnK Films & Stills. Definitely, the hot media moms carried with them a piece of that memorable event.

Day 2 continued the meaningful celebration through the much-awaited Journeyscapes with Ludy Talk Show: “Mother’s Gift of Giving.” Hosted by Ludy Vilma Atillo the talk show created a safe and heartfelt space where guests openly shared their experiences, realizations, and sacrifices as mothers. The discussions touched on how every mom has her own unique way of nurturing her children, how upbringing shapes parenting styles, and how selfless mothers can be in giving love, time, and support to their families.

The event featured inspiring personalities including Actress and Singer Akiko Solon, Host and DJ Sweet Caroline Balbarino, and Relationship Coach Kristine De Guzman-Deer, who each brought wisdom, authenticity, and relatable insights to the discussion. Their stories deeply resonated with the audience, reminding everyone that motherhood comes in many forms, and there is no perfect way to become a good mother — only a loving and genuine one.

After the emotional and inspiring talk show, the atmosphere shifted into a relaxing and joyful celebration as Dove’s Pipe Cebu serenaded the audience with beautiful live performances. Families, guests, mall goers, and even bystanders stopped to watch, sing along, dance, and simply enjoy the wonderful energy filling the venue.

The event became even more memorable as participating moms received pink Carnation flowers which were handed by family members while the rest were given by Mahi Center’s Marketing Head Giovanni Ruiz. Truly, everyone felt appreciated and celebrated.

The following sponsors were responsible for making the two-day event extra special with the rifles and surprised giveaways:
* TFM Head-spa
* A Plus Clinic Premier Aesthetics
* Human Nature
* La Lura Brows and Beauty
* Smile Syndicate Dental Clinic
* David’s Salon
* D+B Wines & Spirits
* Big Bash Blooms & Events
* Linda Alcover Flower Shop
* Human Nature
* World Institute for Incurable Disease - WID Purposeful Longevity
* Asian Star Express Cargo Forwarder

Indeed, the two-day Mother’s Day celebration organized by Journeyscapes with Ludy in partnership with Mahi Center was more than just an event. It became a heartfelt gathering filled with empowerment, laughter, music, learning, and love — a celebration honoring mothers, women, and everyone who continuously gives so much of themselves every single day.

In these unforgettable celebrations, Mahi Center was the perfect event venue. Being the newest business and lifestyle destination in the heart of Lapu-Lapu City, the families also came to dine together and celebrate Mother's Day, shop for gifts, do errands and go for grocery after the shows, making a totally enjoyable experience for everyone.

CCCI Reinforces MSME Development Through Mentorship at Go Negosyo’s First Provincial Run of “Trabaho at Negosyo”

The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) strengthened its commitment to MSME development and workforce empowerment by supporting the first provincial run of Go Negosyo’s “Trabaho at Negosyo” roadshow held on May 9, 2026, at SM Seaside City Cebu.

Centered on creating opportunities for both employment and entrepreneurship, the initiative brought together job seekers, aspiring entrepreneurs, MSMEs, government agencies, and private sector partners in a collaborative platform aimed at advancing inclusive economic growth.

The event marked a milestone for Go Negosyo as Cebu became the first provincial venue of the organization’s pioneering job skills and entrepreneurship roadshow. Hundreds of job seekers and small entrepreneurs flocked to the venue to access free job matching opportunities, mentorship sessions, and support services from both government and private sector institutions.

One of the highlights of the event was the number of applicants who were hired on the spot (HOTS) during the job fair, providing immediate employment opportunities for many Cebuanos and reflecting the strong demand for skilled and capable workers in the region.

As one of the initiative’s key institutional partners, the Cebu Chamber supported the program through the participation of its distinguished business leaders and entrepreneurship mentors during the Business Mentoring Sessions, where MSMEs and aspiring entrepreneurs received practical guidance on business growth, innovation, sustainability, and enterprise development.

Representing the Cebu Chamber were President Regan Rex King; PCCI Director and Vice President for MSME Development and Past President Melanie Ng; PCCI Regional Governor for Central Visayas and Past President Felix Taguiam; Past President Virgilio Espeleta; Trustee Ma. Aleta Dela Calzada; and Executive Director Joy Lorena Segismar, alongside several Chamber members who served as mentors during the sessions.

Through their participation, the Chamber reaffirmed its commitment to empowering MSMEs and strengthening a more resilient, innovative, and future-ready entrepreneurial ecosystem in Cebu.

The Chamber also expressed its appreciation to Go Negosyo, government agencies, private sector partners, employers, mentors, and participating organizations whose collective efforts contributed to the success of the event and helped create meaningful opportunities for Cebuanos.

Through initiatives such as Trabaho at Negosyo, the Cebu Chamber continues to champion programs that bridge employment and entrepreneurship, recognizing MSMEs as vital drivers of job generation, innovation, and inclusive economic development in the region.

As Cebu continues to recover and grow in an increasingly competitive global environment, the Chamber underscored its continuing support for initiatives that create jobs, strengthen enterprises, and uplift communities.

“Together, let us build a Cebu where opportunities are accessible, enterprises are empowered, communities are uplifted, and growth becomes prosperity shared by all,” King said.
