‘I DID NOT MAKE SPECULATIONS’

The three lawyers spoke in unison during the 21st day of the impeachment trial as hostile witness Atty. Michael Poa denied that he made speculations following the remarks of Atty. Jay Tolosa.

“Pasensya na, Atty. I heard you don’t want to make speculations, you have to admit that you made some speculations there,” Tolosa said.

“I’m sorry, I did not make speculations—,” Poa interjected.

“It is highly inappropriate, your honor. That’s out of order,” Atty. Sheila Sison of the defense added.

Poa, one of the counsels of Vice President Sara Duterte, was former Chief of Staff and Undersecretary of the Department of Education (DepEd).

The defense team of Vice President Sara Duterte said Tuesday it sees no irregularity in the issuance of an Armed Forces of the Philippines certificate used as an attachment to documents submitted by the Department of Education (DepEd) to the Commission on Audit (COA) concerning the use of confidential funds.

Presiding Officer Francis Escudero asks prosecution witness Col. Manaros Boransing II if he knows that the DepEd submitted his 2024 certification as response to the Audit Observation Memorandum (AOM).

“Alam niyo ba na confidential funds ang ginastos para doon sa expenses na iyon?” Escudero asks.

Boransing answers in the negative as he is not an intelligence officer.

He then asks Boransing to confirm that no funds were given to the AFP, any of its units, or anyone in his unit, but that DepEd must have spent money for the YLS and IEC activities.

Boransing says it is possible.
