Some 700 Moro villagers evacuated to safe areas after two rival partisan groups clashed in politically-troubled barangay in Nabalawag town in the Bangsamoro Special Geographic Area in Cotabato province on Wednesday morning, September 16.

Local officials and traditional Moro datus told reporters at noon Wednesday that the two groups traded that shots in Sitio Bentad in Barangay Olandang in Nabalawag using assault rifles had supported rival candidates during the Bangsamoro parliamentary elections on Monday.

Captain Steffie Salanguit, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, told reporters that a policeman in a team dispatched to investigate the incident was wounded in the ensuing crossfire.

Patrolman Alfadz Umal, of PRO-BAR’s Regional Mobile Force Battalion 14, sustained a bullet wound in his right leg. He was immediately brought by his companions to a hospital for treatment.

The barangays covered by the newly-established Nabalawag municipality in the Bangsamoro Special Geographic Area originally belonged to Midsayap town in Cotabato, a component-province of Administrative Region 12.

Local executives in Midsayap and officials of the Cotabato Provincial Police Office told reporters the hostilities in Sitio Bentad in Barangay Olandang forced no fewer than 700 Moro villagers evacuated to faraway barangays, fearing an escalation of the election-related hostilities. Four lawyers in the Bangsamoro Federalist Party (BFP) were elected as members of the 80-seat parliament in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao during the regional parliamentary polls on Monday, September 14.

The BFP is the party to dominate the BARMM parliament, having many members elected as bloc party nominees and district representatives to the 80-member regional lawmaking body.

Local executives in BARMM’s five provinces and three cities are expecting the lawyers Ishak Mastura, Jay Salliman, Naguib Sinarimbo and Kitem Kadatuan, Jr. to lead deliberations on regional laws that their bloc shall draft and submit for approval by the regional parliament.

More than half of the 116 municipal mayors in BARMM are members of the BFP. Three of the region’s five provincial governors and the chief executives in its three cities, Lamitan, Marawi and Cotabato, where BARMM’s capitol is located, are also BFP members.

The lawyers Mastura, Salliman and Sinarimbo were elected as representatives of parliamentary districts in the provinces of Maguindanao del Norte and Basilan and Cotabato City, respectively. Kadatuan, who is of Maguindanaon descent, is among the 16 BFP members elected as bloc nominees to represent their party in the region’s lawmaking body.

“They shall, as lawyers, become the strong voice in the Bangsamoro parliament of Muslim, Christian and indigenous non-Moro communities in all provinces and cities in the Bangsamoro region,” BFP’s president, BARMM Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua, told reporters on Wednesday.

Macacua, currently functioning as figurehead of the BARMM parliament and is also overseeing all agencies of the regional government as an appointee of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., was also elected last Monday as representative of a parliamentary district covering several barangays in Cotabato City and in Maguindanao del Sur province.

The newly-elected parliament member Mastura, who had served as regional trade and investment secretary in the now defunct Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, is a scion of a big noble Moro clan in Sultan Kudarat and Sultan Mastura towns in Maguindanao del Norte.

Salliman is son of Basilan Vice Gov. Hadjiman Salliman. The maternal grandfather of the now parliament member Salliman is the late Simeon Datumanong, a lawyer and member of the government peace panel that crafted, in Tripoli, Libya, along with negotiators from the Moro National Liberation Front, the vaunted 1976 government-MNLF Tripoli Agreement.

The 1976 government-MNLF Tripoli Agreement was to become the main reference in the crafting of the September 2, 1996 final peace compact between the MNLF and the national government. It was also used as a basis for the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on Bangsamoro between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

The M**F shall be represented in the parliament by representatives elected last Monday as candidates of its regional political party, the United Bangsamoro Justice Party.

A known Moro rights activist while still a college student, Zulfikar-Ali Bayam, is among the 16 elected BFP nominees for seats in the parliament.

Macacua said he is certain that Bayam will stand for the rights of the Moro and non-Moro communities in the parliament.

Local executives across BARMM belonging to the BFP are certain that the elected members of the region's parliament will nominate Macacua as their chief minister during their first session as duly elected regional lawmakers.

Humigit-kumulang 700 Moro na residente ang lumikas patungo sa mga ligtas na lugar matapos magsagupaan ang dalawang magkaribal na partisan group sa isang lugar na may kaguluhang pulitikal sa Barangay Olandang, bayan ng Nabalawag, Bangsamoro Special Geographic Area sa lalawigan ng Cotabato, noong Miyerkules ng umaga, Setyembre 16.

COTABATO CITY (Sept. 14, 2026) --- Partisans destroyed on Monday two sports utility vehicles of members of a rival party parked outside of a school campus in this city while polling precincts inside were facilitating Bangsamoro parliamentary electoral exercises.

The vehicles were parked along the busy Sinsuat Avenue in Cotabato City, just outside of the two-hectare campus of the Sero Elementary School, less than a hundred meters away from the Cotabato City Police Precinct 2.

The rampage triggered panic among passersby and voters inside the school campus.

Investigators from the Cotabato City Police Office and barangay officials are cooperating in identifying the men who destroyed the two vehicles for prosecution.

The Commission on Elections had placed Cotabato City under its control owing to the bloody election-related incidents in some areas in its territory on Sunday night and, subsequently, on Monday, amid the September 14 first ever regional parliamentary elections. []

An elderly Moro man was wounded in the crossfire between policemen and supporters of a political party that clashed in Shariff Saydona Mustapha town in Maguindanao del Sur on Monday, while the Bangsamoro parliamentary polls are being held in the municipality.

Reports from the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region and the Maguindanao del Sur Provincial Police Office stated the personnel of the Shariff Saydona Mustapha Municipal Police Station first apprehended a man suspiciously roaming near the campus of the Nabundas Elementary School in Nabundas, Shariff Saydona Mustapha after which they were attacked by heavily armed supporters of a party that has candidates for the Bangsamoro regional parliament.

A voter was reportedly hit by an astray bullet, immediately brought to a hospital for treatment.

The exchanges of gunfire waned only after the armed partisans fled when they ran out of ammunition, according to local executives and traditional Moro datis in Shariff Saydona Mustapha, one of the 24 towns in Maguindanao del Sur, a component-province of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

The incident triggered panic in the surroundings of the campus that gunmen reportedly straffed with assault rifles. prompting policemen guarding polling sites insides to return fire, forcing them to scamper away.

Ipinailalim ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) sa kanilang direktang kontrol ang lahat ng 37 barangay sa lungsod na ito dahil sa mga madugong insidente noong Linggo ng gabi at pagsisimula ng botohan nitong Lunes para sa halalang parliamentaryo sa Bangsamoro.

Ang Cotabato City ang kabisera ng Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), na sumasaklaw sa mga lalawigan ng Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Basilan at Tawi-Tawi, gayundin sa dalawang lungsod na Lamitan at Marawi.

Sinabi sa mga ulat sa radyo sa Cotabato City nitong Lunes ng umaga ng mga regional official ng Comelec sa BARMM at ng kanilang nakatataas na si Chairman George Erwin Garcia na isinailalim din sa direktang kontrol ng komisyon ang bayan ng Maluso sa Basilan dahil sa mga karahasang may kaugnayan sa halalang parliamentaryo sa Bangsamoro.

Tatlong lalaking Moro, sina Caril Abdul Lumidsog, ang kanyang kapatid na si Bain Abdul Lumidsog, at Idar Kasan Andog ang napatay ng mga armadong lalaki malapit sa Datu Usman Mampen Elementary School sa Barangay Bagua 2, Cotabato City, ilang sandali bago maghatinggabi noong Linggo.

Magkahiwalay na sinabi sa mga reporter noong Lunes ng madaling araw ni Capt. Steffie Salanguit, tagapagsalita ng Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, at ni Col. Jibin Bongcayao, direktor ng Cotabato City Police Office, na 15 iba pang residente ang nasugatan sa pamamaril.

Sinabi ni Bagua 2 Barangay Chairman Fahad Singh sa mga reporter na ang tatlong nasawi at ang 15 iba pang nagtamo ng tama ng bala sa iba’t ibang bahagi ng katawan ay kanyang mga kasamahan.

Ayon kay Singh, kasama ang mga volunteer community watchman, pupunta sila upang tingnan ang iniulat na presensya ng mga armadong lalaki malapit sa campus ng Datu Usman Mampen Elementary School sa Barangay Bagua 2 nang biglang magpaputok ang grupong armado ng mga assault rifle. Agad na napatay ang magkapatid na Lumidsog at si Andog.

Agad na dinala ng mga emergency responder sa iba’t ibang ospital ang mga sugatang kasamahan ni Singh para magamot.

Naganap ang insidente mga dalawang oras matapos ang isang malakas na pagsabog sa isang residential area sa Purok Amirol, Mother Barangay Kalanganan, Cotabato City, na ikinamatay ni Zainodin Sapal Macabuat.

Sinabi ng mga opisyal ng barangay na kumakalat sa mga nayon sa kanilang nasasakupan ang mga usap-usapan na posibleng namatay si Macabuat dahil sa aksidenteng pagsabog ng fragmentation gr***de na dadalhin sana niya sa ibang lugar. Nagtamo siya ng malubhang sugat mula sa mga tipak ng granada sa kanyang katawan na naging sanhi ng kanyang pagkamatay.

Dalawang lalaki rin na kapwa iniuugnay sa isang partidong pulitikal ang namatay dahil sa mga tama ng bala na tinamo nila sa isang sagupaan madaling-araw ng Lunes sa Cotabato City Central Elementary School. Nasugatan din ang isa nilang kasamahan at isang pulis na naka-duty.

Tinamaan ng bala sa kanang binti ang pulis at kasalukuyang naka-confine sa ospital.

Sinabi ng mga tauhan ng Cotabato City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office sa mga reporter na namatay ang dalawang lalaki sa ospital kung saan dinala para gamutin ang lahat ng apat na biktima.

Magkatuwang na nagbantay sa lahat ng polling site sa Cotabato City ang mga police unit ng PRO-BAR at mga tauhan mula sa Regions 11 at 12, personnel ng 6th Marine Battalion ng 1st Marine Brigade ng Philippine Navy, at mga sundalo ng 6th Infantry Division ng Philippine Army.

Samantala, naging maayos at mapayapa ang pagsasagawa ng halalang parliamentaryo sa kalapit na mga bayan ng Sultan Kudarat at Datu Odin Sinsuat sa Maguindanao del Norte.

3 patay, 13 sugatan sa election-related attack sa Cotabato City

Tatlong residente ang patay at 13 na iba pa ang sugatan ng pagbabarilin ng pinaghihinalaang mga supporters ng isang political party sa Barangay Bagua 2 sa Cotabato City nitong gabi ng Linggo, ilang oras bago magsimula ang Bangsamoro elections ngayong Lunes.

Nagsanhi ng malawakang panic sa mga residente ng naturang lugar ang mga automatic rifle shots na kanilang kapaligiran.

Mismong mga officials ng Cotabato City Police Office at ang barangay chairman ng Bagua 2, si Fahad Singh, ang nag-kumpirma, dalawang oras makalipas ang insidente, na tatlo ang nasawi at 13 na iba pa ang sugatan sa insidente.

Isa sa mga naiulat na sugatan sa insidente ang isang city councilor, si Marouf Ayunan Pasawiran. Hindi naman malinaw kung saan siya sa dalawang panig na sangkot sa insidente.

Ayon kay Singh, siya at kanyang mga kasama, ilan sa kanila mga barangay tanod, ay nagtungo sa isang paaralan sa kanilang barangay upang alamin sana ang naiulat na umpukan ng mga armadong kalalakihan sa paligid nito.

Ayon kay Singh agad silang pinagbabaril ng grupong armado ng mga assault rifles na nagresulta sa agarang pagkamatay ng dalawa niyang kasama at pagkasugat ng 13 na iba pa, isa sa kanila pumanaw din kalaunan.

Ayon sa mga inosenteng residente ng Barangay Bagua 2 ang insidente ay may kinalaman sa parliamentary elections sa Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao ngayon Lunes, September 14.

A Moro villager was seriously injured in a powerful explosion that ripped through a secluded area in Purok Amirol in Barangay Kalanganan in west of Cotabato City in the Bangsamoro region on Sunday night, September 13.

Captain Steffie Salanguit, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, told reporters that the blast victim, Zainodin Sapal Macabuat, was immediately brought by emergency responders to the Cotabato Regional Medical Center (CRMC) in uptown Cotabato City for treatment.

Barangay officials and investigators from the Cotabato City Police Station 4 who responded to the incident had told reporters that Macabuat was standing at one spot in Purok Amirol, waiting for someone, when something landed in front of him and went off.

Probers had initially theorized that the explosive could be a 40 millimeter gr***de projectile, or an anti-tank rocket fired from a distance.

Macabuat sustained large wounds in the middle torso, now fighting for his life at the CRMC, some eight kilometers away from the scene of the explosion.

Local executives and officials of the Cotabato City Police Office, which is under PRO-BAR, and counterparts in the Army’s 6th Infantry Division are together validating if the bombing is related, as widely perceived, to the Bangsamoro regional elections on Monday, September 14.

Cotabato City, which has 37 barangays, is the capital of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Residents of BARMM are to participate in a parliamentary electoral exercise on Monday, BARMM’s first since its creation in 2019, a product of a longtime peace overture between the government and Mindanao’s Moro communities.

The territory of BARMM covers Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Basilan and Tawi-Tawi provinces and the cities of Lamitan, Marawi and Cotabato, where there are known election hotspots and where residents have a strong culture of keeping fi****ms both for protection from adversaries and as status symbol.
